Tra Italia e Finlandia

Per vedere e per fotografare gli animali selvatici ci vuole un po’ di fortuna.  Succede di appostarsi a lungo senza avvistare niente e poi un giorno si alza lo sguardo distrattamente e…si scorge un Gheppio!  (Falco tinnunculus)

La bestiola,  appostata sulla cima di un albero,  stava guardandosi intorno  in cerca di prede.

Il Gheppio e’ presente anche in Finlandia ed ha pure un bel nome:  Tuulihaukka,  cioe’:  “il falco del vento”.  Mi e’ capitato di vederne uno poco tempo fa con le ali aperte in volo a “Spirito santo”,  ma purtroppo la mia macchina fotografica era altrove.

Ehi,  signor Gheppio,  pero’ non guardi troppo insistentemente verso la fotografa…!

Hawk-eye.   

It takes a little luck to see and photograph wild animals.  You can search them for long time with no results and then one day you just raise your head and meet…a hawk!  This is actually a medium sized falcon called:  Common Kestrel (Falco tinnunculus).  In that moment it was just looking carefully around for a prey. 

I have met Kestrels many times both in Italy and in Finland.  In Finnish it has a nice name:  “Tuulihaukka”,  that is:  “The wind falcon”.

Once I saw a Kestrel float with open wings in the air,  but my camera was unfortunately at home.  (Falco tinnunculus).

Oops!  Mister Kestrel,  please do not stare too intensely at the photographer…!
