Uno specchio d’acqua.

Il modo di dire finlandese per rendere l’idea delle acque calme,  di lago o di mare,  non e’:  “calmo come un olio”,  come diciamo noi,  ma:  “calmo come uno specchio”.  In queste foto,  il lago di Kirkkojärvi al tramonto in una sera di inizio Maggio,  con il ghiaccio finalmente sciolto ma con gli alberi ancora spogli,  da’ proprio l’idea dello specchio… (ore:  22.30).

Like a mirror.    Whenever they want to convey the idea of calm waters of sea or lakes,  the Finns say:  “looks like a mirror”,  not:  “as calm as oil”,  as we say in Italian.  In these photos the Kirkkojärvi lake looks like a mirror,  on an early May evening sunset,  when ice is finally all melted but trees are still bare.   (Time was 10.30 p.m.).
