Ciuffolotti.

Cari lettori, oggi guardo insieme a voi queste belle immagini dei Ciuffolotti, uccellini stanziali in Finlandia, che pero’ avvistiamo per lo piu’ in inverno, quando si avvicinano alle case per cercare cibo, ma che altrimenti se ne stanno nel folto del bosco, essendo timidissimi.

I Ciuffolotti (Pyrrhula pyrrhula), sono caratterizzati dal vistoso petto color arancione dei maschi (le femmine invece sono grigie), che li fa rassomigliare ai Pettirossi ad un occhio poco esperto. Il corpicino e’ tondo e robusto e soprattutto il becco e’ largo e forte. I ciuffolotti sono granivori, percio’ mangiano semi e bacche, ma anche pinoli.

Vivono in tutta la Scandinavia, l’Europa del nord e l’Asia settentrionale, ma sono diffusi anche sulle Alpi e gli Appennini. Sono una specie che ama i climi freddi, percio’ li troviamo in montagna – da noi ad esempio in Trentino.

In finnico si chiamano: Punatulkku.

Nelle mie foto vedete chiaramente la differenza fra maschi e femmine: qui sotto sono insieme, alle nostre mangiatoie.

I Ciuffolotti sono poco piu’ grandi dei Passeri e delle Cinciallegre, per cui si permettono di bullizzarli, come vedete nel video qui sotto:

The Eurasian Bullfinch.

Dear readers, today I will share with you these beautiful images of Eurasian Bullfinches, resident birds in Finland, which we see mostly in winter, when they approach houses to look for food, but which otherwise stay in the thick of the woods, being very shy.

Bullfinches (Pyrrhula pyrrhula), are characterized by the showy orange chest of the males (the females are gray instead), which may remind of the Robins to an inexperienced eye. Their body is round and robust and above all their beak is broad and strong. Bullfinches feed on grains, therefore they eat seeds and berries, but also pine nuts.

They live throughout Scandinavia, northern Europe and northern Asia, but are also widespread in the Alps and the Apennines. They prefer cold climates, therefore we find them in the mountains – in Italy for example in the Trentino region.

In my shots you can clearly see the differences between males and females. In the last shot they are together at our feeders.

In Finnish they are called: Punatulkku.

Bullfinches are slightly bigger than Sparrows and Great tits, so they can sometimes be bullied by Bullfinches, as you can see in the above video.
