Come sapete bene,  ogni inverno ci piace mettere a disposizione dei nostri amici di piume le mangiatoie piene di semi e palle di grasso,  per aiutarli a sopravvivere ai rigori dell’inverno.

Le suddette mangiatoie, pero’,  sarebbero per gli uccellini di piccola taglia che non migrano,  quelli stanziali:  Cinciallegre,  Cinciarelle,  Cince Bigie,  Cince dal ciuffo,  Cince more,  Verdoni,  Zigoli gialli,  Ciuffolotti,  Codibugnoli,  Organetti…(bella collezione, eh??)  ma naturalmente anche quelli di taglia maggiore quando il freddo si fa sentire vengono a cercare qualcosa…e non solo loro!

Qualche esempio?  Nella foto in alto la Ghiandaia,  (Garrulus glandarius)  dalla splendida livrea colorata.

Il Picchio rosso maggiore,  (Dendrocops major)  perfettamente a suo agio in verticale.

Il Merlo,  (Turdus merula)  un gran opportunista.

Gli Scoiattoli rossi,  (Sciurus vulgaris)  meravigliosi e divertenti.  Che spasso guardarli!

Un’insospettabile ladruncola:  l’Arvicola dei boschi,  (Chlethrionomys glareolus)  che non e’ una talpa ne’ un topo,  ma appartiene alla famiglia dei criceti;  vive nel sottobosco e in inverno sbuca dalla neve con agilita’.

Il Fagiano,  (Phasianus colchicus)  viene molto raramente.

La Lepre,  (Lepus europaeus),  che ruba non solo i semi di avena,  ma assaggia anche i tronchi degli alberi da frutto,  che bisogna difendere con reti.

Infine,  il piu’ ladruncolo:  lo Sparviero  (Accipiter nisus) …che vorrebbe portarseli via tutti!  Data la scarsita’ di colori,  stavolta potrebbe trattarsi di una femmina in agguato nel nostro roseto.

Thieves.

As you know,  every winter we put out our feeders for our little feathered friends to find easy food.  We provide suet balls,  oats and sunflower seeds.  Sometimes nuts. 

The point is that the feeders are intended for the smallest non-migratory birds who spend the harsh season with us,  such as:  Great tits,  Blue tits,  Willow tits,  European Crested tits,  Coal tits,  European greenfinches,  Yellowhammers,  Eurasian Bullfinches,  Long-tailed tits,  Common redpolls…(nice collection,  isn’t it??)  but of course also bigger birds come to take advantage when the season gets tough.  And not only birds!

In my shots a few examples:  number one above the Eurasian Jay,  (Garrulus glandarius),  in his coloured livery.

The  Great spotted woodpecker,  (Dendrocops major),  always standing vertically.

The Blackbird,  (Turdus merula),  a cunning opportunist.

The Red squirrels,  (Sciurus vulgaris):  so much fun to watch them!

The Red-backed vole,  ((Chlethrionomys glareolus),  who is neither a mouse nor a mole.   He is a relative to Hamsters and lives in the woodlands.  He creeps up from under the snow with ease and briskly.

The Pheasant,  (Phasianus colchicus), rarely seen,  though.

The European hare  (Lepus europaeus),  who does not only steal oat seeds,  but tastes every trunk of fruit trees in our garden.  We must protect them with nets in winter.

Finally,  the most thief of all:  the Sparrowhawk  (Accipiter nisus),  who would like to prey them all!  This might be a female,  seen the dull colours.  She is lurking in our rosebush.

  2. Anche a me piace fotografare gli animali nel loro ambiente, ma poi i risultati sono ben lungi da questi e quindi lascio stare e mi godo il lavoro altrui!

  5. I live in this block of flats situated next to a forrest. We have plenty on Käpytikka, Jänis and Orava here. You basicly see them everyday. I even have one small Närhi feather framed in my wall. Those I havent seen in nature ever. But it´s nice to live so close to the nature while living in “big” city.

  20. Abito in una zona residenziale al limitare tuttavia di una vasta area con coltivazioni. Abbiamo in zona fattorie con animali di allevamento, e una piccola oasi naturalistica con molte specie di uccelli (che non saprei elencarti…).
    E poi tanti gatti, cani e… piccioni.

    Beautiful photos of the wildlife. The birds are so pretty, I love your Jay and the Woodpecker. The Pheasant is a handsome bird. Cute little vole and the bunny is adorable. Wonderful collection of photos. Take care, have a great day and week ahead!
