I finlandesi finora ci hanno raccontato che sul loro territorio sono presenti ben 188.000 laghi,  che loro sfruttano trascorrendovi i weekend estivi facendo grigliate con gli amici,  gite in barca e saune con successivi tuffi…

In inverno,  quando sono ghiacchiati,  ci sciano/pattinano sopra,  nonchè ci pescano…

Ma in questi giorni e’ uscita la notizia che,  grazie ad un ricalcolo basato sulla grandezza della superficie di ciascun lago,  il numero e’ sceso a “soli” 168.000.  In pratica si e’ deciso di classificare come lago un bacino idrico che sia almeno 5000 mq di superficie.  Al di sotto di questo limite,  i bacini vengono declassati a stagni,  specchi d’acqua,  pozze.

Un aspetto non trascurabile dei laghi e’ sicuramente la pescosita’;  in Finlandia e’ molto facile trovare pesce di lago nei menu’ dei ristoranti e ai finnici piace pescare e cucinare il pesce.   Persici,  branzini e lucci ma anche anguille,  dato il fondale fangoso di molti laghi.

Infine,  tutti i laghi della Finlandia sono balneabili dal punto di vista di qualità delle acque.  Per quanto riguarda le temperature,  dipende dai gusti personali:  a volte possono risultare un po’ freddi,  ma nelle estati come quest’anno con 34 gradi a fine luglio…beh…un tuffetto era solamente piacevole!

Finland is known for having 188,000 lakes in its territory.  Finnish people are of course happy with all this water;  they spend much time by their lakes in the summer weekends:  grilling with friends,  boating or swimming after a hot sauna…

In winter they will ski/skate on the lakes icy surfaces and winter-fish as well…

Last week,  though,  the news was that Finland decided to update the number of lakes by classifying them according to their size:  only those with a surface of at least 5000 square metres will be ranked as lakes;  below this limit they will be just ponds,  pools.

Therefore the Finns found themselves with “only” 168,000 lakes!

As a matter of fact,  the most important fact about lakes is fish:  in Finland fresh-water fish is much appreciated and commonly found in restaurants menus;   Finns like to catch and grill their own fish:  perch,  bass and pike but also eels,  given the muddy bottom of some lakes.

Finally,  I’d like to clarify that all lakes in Finland are suitable for bathing from the pont of view of water cleanness;   as regards temperatures,  it depends on what one likes:   to Italian people they may feel a bit fresh.   This year certainly it was pleasant to dive at the end of July when air temperature was 34 C!

  19. Ciao Manuel e grazie. Ti confermo che qyella schiumetta non è inquinamento: i finnici la chiamano letteralmente “la cresta dell’onda” ed è l’equivalente della schiuma del mare. Dipende dall’altezza e dalla struttura delle onde, quindi è proprio naturale.

  31. Riitta referred to your post about the lakes. Incredible! I knew Finland had many lakes, but not this many! Beautiful views and your view with all the trees is my favrite! Many thankds for sharing this beautiful aspect of Finland with All Seasons!
