Nelle belle giornate di primavera cosa succede in Finlandia? Arrivano i primi uccelli migratori.
Canada Geese.
What happens in Finland on fine spring days? The first migratory birds arrive.
Among them are the Canada Geese (Brenta Canadensis). These large birds with evident black and white plumage with some shades of brown, are of considerable size: up to one meter in length with a wingspan that reaches up to one meter and eighty. They are the largest geese living in Finland.
Being herbivorous, they are seen not only dabbling in the water but also grazing in fields and meadows; they spend the winter just outside Finland, off the Baltic Sea or at most they go as far as Denmark or the Netherlands, from November to April, when they come back here for the mating season.
I remind all my readers that what pushes migratory birds to move is not only the temperature they perceive, but also the increased hours of light. That’s why you see these geese walking on still frozen lakes in my above shots.

We have Canadian geese in the country almost all year round. Since they are invasive and reproduce en masse, they really pose problems in some places, so that local intervention is needed to keep everything under control.
They are beautiful birds, nothing is more beautiful than seeing them fly low over your head on a foggy morning.

These birds are almost everywhere in Finland too but not yet in alarming numbers, as are the Barnacle geese, for instance. Unfortunately it is necessary to keep the population under control…that’s true.

You are fortunate that the geese in Finland are migratory. They have come to live in my part of the U.S. year round and are leaving excrement everywhere.

Hello,
Great series on the Canada Geese. I also love the Swan and duck. I hope the ice melts quickly. Have a great day and happy new week!

Tolle Aufnahmen!

Beautiful birds, but are not welcome on British golf courses, as they leave large droppings, are noisy and sometimes confrontational.

I believe that. They are big birds…

When the number of individuals grows too much, the problems also grow…

I don´t like these shit hawks, their shit is every where. Once I was attacked by one. Very agressive they are when they have offpsrings. I think that they shoud be drive away from city parks and such places. There´s plenty of room for them in the counryside. After all Finland has some 168 000 lakes, so there´s plenty to choose from.

If they continue increasing in numbers, they will become a problem.
