Buona Epifania a chi festeggia!

Cari lettori,  oggi come momento musicale di chiusura del periodo natalizio,  vi propongo una melodia composta dal musicista ucraino Mykola Leontovych all’inizio del XX secolo.  E’ puttosto famosa e molti di voi l’avranno gia’ sentita,  se interessati a uscire dall’ambito delle “solite” carole natalizie.

L’originale si ispirava a canti folcloristici di quel Paese,  ma perse importanza dopo che l’Unione Sovietica vi impose la propria cultura.  Fu dunque diffusa nel resto del mondo per lo piu’ con testo tradotto in inglese.  Il titolo e’ infatti:  “Carol of the bells”.

La melodia e’ dolcissima ed e’ molto adatta per il canto corale:  io ve la propongo cantata da un coro di voci bianche.

La dedichiamo al popolo ucraino,  perche’ possa trovare pace?

Dear readers,  today as a closing musical moment for the Christmas period,  I will propose a melody composed by Ukrainian musician Mykola Leontovych at the beginning of the 20th century.  It’s quite famous and many of you will have already heard it,  if you are interested in going beyond the “usual” Christmas carols.

The original melody was inspired by folk songs from that country,  but lost importance after the Soviet Union imposed its culture on it.  It was therefore brought to the rest of the world mostly with text translated into English.  The title is in fact: “Carol Of The Bells”.

The melody is very sweet and is suitable for choral singing:  I propose it sung by a choir of children’s voices.

Shall we dedicate it to the Ukrainian people,  as a wish for Peace?
