Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Marzo e’ stato decisamente primaverile nella prima meta’,  ma ci ha dato un piccolo colpo di coda invernale nella seconda meta’.  Le temperature si sono mantenute sotto lo zero di notte e sono arrivate fino a 10/12C di giorno.  La neve si e’ quindi sciolta pochissimo:  in giardino ne abbiamo un buon 40cm e sotto le finestre circa un metro perche’ si somma a quella caduta dal tetto.  Ci vorra’ tutto Aprile per farla sciogliere.  Va detto che e’ stato un inverno eccezionalmente ricco di precipitazioni nevose.

Le giornate si sono allungate tantissimo:  il 21 marzo abbiamo sorpassato l’Italia quanto a ore di luce e da adesso in poi fino al 23 settembre sara’ sempre piu’ chiaro.  In aggiunta,  la neve aiuta la luminosita’ e l’effetto totale e’ accecante.

Approfittando della enorme quantita’ di neve caduta in questo anomalo inverno,  abbiamo avuto la possibilita’ di sciare tutti i giorni.  Naturalmente in marzo il clima e’ diverso da gennaio:  il sole inizia a scaldare considerevolmente e le parti della pista esposte erano molli,  mentre le parti nel bosco erano dure;  inoltre marzo e’ proprio un mese ventilato,  proprio a causa delle temperature oscillanti,  per cui gli alberi lasciano cadere aghi,  piccoli pezzi di corteccia e anche rametti sulla pista.  La neve ideale sarebbe proprio quella di gennaio,  insomma.

Io sono andata a sciare tutti i giorni che ho potuto:  non riesco ad immaginare uno sport piu’ divertente dello sci da fondo:  e’ faticoso ma ripaga di tutto.  Persino lo sci alpino non e’ cosi’ bello:  il tempo che si trascorre sugli impianti di risalita per raggiungere le piste,  nel fondo non esiste.  Inoltre il senso di liberta’ del fondo non ha pari.

La stagione della caccia ha permesso di abbattere 1.107 cervi e 77 alci solo nel territorio di Somero,  che e’ di circa 698 kmq.  Cio’ non significa che ci siamo ferocemente votati ad estinguere questi animali,  ma vi da’ la misura di quanto numerosi siano.  La caccia infatti ha anche il compito importantissimo ed evidentissimo di tenere sotto controllo il proliferare di una data specie,  in modo che non prenda il sopravvento su altre,  togliendogli spazio, cibo…  La caccia di questi animali e’ ferreamente regolamentata dalle autorita’ locali,  infatti;  e’ addirittura il governo centrale che autorizza il numero esatto di capi da abbattere ogni anno.  A parte essere una caccia impegnativa e faticosa – bisogna infatti accerchiarli e convogliarli in zone ben precise – questa attivita’ impiega parecchi uomini.  Inoltre non si puo’ protrarre oltre una certa data,  per non correre il pericolo di abbattere le femmine gravide.

Gli uccellini hanno iniziato i loro gorgheggi primaverili,  spinti non solo dalle temperature ma anche dalla aumentata quantita’ di luce.

Proprio il giorno 8 marzo,  Giornata Internazionale della Donna,  ho visto alle mie mangiatoie i primi uccellini migratori che temerariamente sono tornati in territorio finnico.  Era una coppia di minuscoli Lucherini;  va detto pero’ che sono sempre fra i primissimi a tornare.  Quest’anno li ha accolti ancora una gran quantita’ di neve,  a differenza di qualche altro marzo.   Successivamente abbiamo visto i primi cigni e persino a fine mese le prime avventurose farfalle.

Una notizia assolutamente primaverile e’ che nell’estremo sud del Paese sono state piantate le prime patate,  ma con preventiva rimozione della neve residua dai campi.  La terra e’ altrimenti gelata,  ma nei declivi esposti a sud il sole funziona bene.

Notizie sportive:  il nuovo allenatore della squadra di calcetto nazionale finlandese e’ l’italiano Sergio Gargelli.  Gli azzurrini invece hanno giocato qui in FIN per una partita di qualificazione all’Europeo a fine mese.  Mentre la nazionale maggiore e’ stata eliminata alle qualificazioni per il prossimo mondiale.  Io non seguo il calcio percio’ filosoficamente dico:  la palla e’ rotonda… 😉

Mi sono tenuta lontana dall’argomento guerra perche’ credo che compito del mio blog sia portare distrazione,  bellezza e respiro in mezzo alle cattive notizie,  pero’ la mia posizione e’ chiara:  pace e liberta’ sono beni inalienabili.  Soprattutto e’ inviolabile il diritto di autodeterminazione dei popoli.  In realta’ qui la percezione del conflitto e’ un po’ diversa da quella che si ha nel sud Europa:  gli analisti italiani sono piu’ ottimisti,  ho letto di Putin accompagnato alla porta,  nientemeno.  Qui sono un po’ piu’ pragmatici,  conoscendo ed avendo esperienza diretta della dominazione russa.  A quanti dei miei lettori deplorano l’espansione della Nato a est,  faccio presente che la Finlandia è stata per circa 100 anni parte della Russia e adesso non ha nessuna voglia di ripetere l’esperienza.  (Qualche dettaglio nel mio post:  https://traitaliaefinlandia.com/2017/11/12/libri-di-storia/)

Certo sono tempi duri per noi idealisti e pacifisti europei che non avremmo mai pensato ad una tale involuzione del mondo al quale ci avevano abituati tutti questi anni di pace e scambi commerciali globali.  Davamo per scontato che a tutti piacesse vivere nella raggiunta pace,  ma purtroppo l’essere umano riserva sorprese e cosi’ la storia ci ripresenta personaggi che ci riportano nel nostro oscuro passato di europei in guerra praticamente continuamente gli uni contro gli altri.  Questa guerra scuote le coscienze di tutti e mette alla prova non solo i nervi ma la propria morale.  Purtroppo non si puo’ prevedere il futuro,  non si possono nemmeno rimediare gli sbagli del passato,  bisogna solo vivere e reagire al presente.   Nessuno puo’ dire come evolvera’ questa guerra,  ma certo la corsa al riarmo e’ un segnale di deterrenza e di non arretramento.  Se Paesi come la Svezia,  che aveva smantellato gran parte del suo esercito,  lo stanno ricostruendo,  vuol dire che la minaccia viene percepita come reale e che la sicurezza di un Paese purtroppo non si mantiene solo con i fiori nei cannoni.

Il punto e’ che nessuno stato si arrenderebbe ad un’invasione senza combattere,  questo e’ chiaro.  Cio’ detto,  spero veramente che presto negoziati seri abbiano luogo e la Russia non possa piu’ essere vista come nemica,  anche se la russofobia è proprio un aspetto di questo conflitto che Putin ha ottenuto facilmente.

I milioni di profughi sono senz’altro anche un’arma scagliata contro l’occidente.  In Italia oltre 70.000 sono già arrivati e in Finlandia oltre 9.000.  Qui peraltro sono arrivati anche moltissimi cittadini russi fuggiti dal loro Paese;  in Finlandia hanno amici,  parenti o seconde case.

Il covid non e’ finito e anche qui la situazione contagi e’ in risalita.  Molte misure sono state allentate,  ma e’ rimasta la raccomandazione di indossare le mascherine al chiuso o in caso di assembramenti,  come previsto in Italia.  Qui e’ pero’ è migliore la situazione vaccinazioni pediatriche.  I casi per 100mila abitanti sono al momento 1775 (1639 in Italia).

Chiudo con un avvenimento piacevolissimo:  anche nell’anno 2021 ho partecipato attivamente al gioco “Parole concatenate” proposto dall’amica-blogger Lulu’ e mi sono classificata prima.  Lei mi ha dunque spedito il prestigioso premio in palio:  un grembiule da cucina graziosissimo ricamato da lei stessa che e’ una persona dotata di molta manualita’ e fantasia. A Month in my Photos.

March was definitely spring-like in the first half,  but gave us a little taste of winter in the second half.  Temperatures stayed below zero C at night and reached 10 / 12C during the day.  The snow has therefore melted very little:  in the garden we have a good 40cm and under the windows about one meter,  as it is piled up with the snow fallen from the roof.  It will take all of April to melt.  It must be said that it was a  winter exceptionally rich in snowfalls.

Days are much longer:  on 2st March we overtook Italy in terms of daylight hours and from now on until 23rd September it will be better and better.  In addition,  the snow helps the brightness and the total effect is blinding.

Taking advantage of the enormous amount of snow fallen in this anomalous winter,  we had the opportunity to ski every day.  Naturally in March the climate is different from January:  the sun begins to heat up considerably and the exposed parts of the track were soft,  while the parts in the woods were still hard;  furthermore,  March is a very windy month,  due to the fluctuating temperatures,  so the trees drop needles,  small pieces of bark and even twigs on the track.  In short,  the ideal snow would be January’s.

I went skiing every day that I could:  I can’t imagine a more fun sport than cross-country skiing:  it’s tiring but it pays off for everything.  Even alpine skiing is not so beautiful:  the time you spend on the ski lifts to reach the slopes is better used in cross-country.  Furthermore,  the sense of freedom is unmatched.

The hunting season allowed 1,107 deer and 77 moose to be killed only in the Somero area,  which is about 698 sq km.  This does not mean that we are fiercely committed to extinguishing these animals,  but it does give you the measure of how numerous they are.  In fact,  hunting also has the very important and very evident task of keeping the proliferation of a given species under control,  so that it does not take over others,  taking away space,  food…  As a matter of fact,  the hunting of these animals is strictly regulated by the local authorities;  it is even the central government that authorizes the exact number of animals to be slaughtered each year.  Apart from being a demanding and tiring hunting – it is in fact necessary to encircle them and convey them to specific areas – this activity employs several men. Furthermore,  it cannot be extended beyond a certain date,  in order not to run the risk of killing pregnant females.

Birds have started their spring warbling,  driven not only by the temperatures but also by the increased amount of light.

On March 8th,  International Women’s Day,  I saw the first migratory birds at my feeders who recklessly returned to Finnish territory.  It was a pair of tiny Siskins;  it must be said,  however,  that they are always among the very first to return.  This year they were welcomed by a large amount of snow,  unlike some other March.  Later on we saw the first swans and even at the end of the month the first adventurous butterflies.

An absolutely spring news is that in the south of Finland the first potatoes have been planted,  partly after removing the residual snow from the fields.  The earth is otherwise frozen,  but in the south-facing slopes the sun works well.

Sports news:  the new coach of the Finnish national soccer team is Italian Sergio Gargelli.  The Italian national team Under19 played here in the FIN a qualifying match for the European Championship at the end of the month.  While the senior national team was eliminated in the qualifiers for the next world championship.  I don’t follow soccer,  anyway.

I stayed away from the war topic because I believe that my blog’s job is to bring distraction,  beauty and clear air in the midst of bad news,  but my position is clear:  peace and freedom are basic values.  Above all,  peoples’s right to self-determination is inviolable.  To tell the truth,  the perception of the conflict here is a little different from what we feel in southern Europe:  Italian analysts are more optimistic,  I have read about Putin accompanied to the door,  no less.  Here they are a bit more realistic,  knowing and having direct experience of Russian domination.  To those of you who wonder why Nato has enlarged eastbound,  I just tell:  Finland has been a part of Russia for about 100 years and does not want to repeat it.  (Some details in my post:  https://traitaliaefinlandia.com/2017/11/12/libri-di-storia/)

Certainly these are hard times for us European idealists and pacifists who would never have thought of such an involution of our world,  accustomed as we were after all these years of peace and global trade.   We assumed that everyone liked to live in peace,  but unfortunately human beings can give surprises and so history creates personages who take us back to our dark past as Europeans at war practically continuously against each other.  This war shakes everyone’s conscience and tests not only our nerves but our morals too.  Unfortunately we cannot predict the future,  we cannot even remedy the mistakes of the past,  we just have to live and react to the present situation.  Nobody can say how this war will evolve,  but certainly the arms race is a sign of deterrence and no retreat.  If countries like Sweden,  which had dramatically reduced its army,  are rebuilding it,  it means that the threat is perceived as real and that any country’s security is not achieved only with flowers in the guns,  unfortunately.

The point is that no state would surrender to an invasion without fighting,  that’s clear.  Anyway,  I really hope that serious negotiations will take place soon and Russia can no longer be seen as an enemy,  even if russophobia is just one aspect of this conflict that Putin easily got.

Covid is not over and here too the contagion situation is on the rise.  Many measures have been relaxed,  but the recommendation to wear masks indoors or in the event of gatherings,  as expected in Italy,  remaines.  Here,  however,  the pediatric vaccination situation is better.  Cases per 100,000 inhabitants are now 1775 and 1639 in Italy.

Finally,  a very pleasant event:  also in the year 2021 I actively participated in the game “Words in a chain“ proposed by my blog-pal Lulu’ and I ranked first.  She therefore sent me the prestigious first prize:  a very pretty kitchen apron embroidered by herself who is a person endowed with manual skills and imagination.
