Delizie di Lapponia.

Questo post e’ tutto dedicato ai lamponi artici (Rubus chamaemorus)  e ai dolcetti che abbiamo assaggiato nel nostro viaggio in Lapponia a base di queste incredibili bacche.  I lamponi artici non sono propriamente frutti di bosco,  ma crescono nelle paludi e acquitrini in tutto il territorio finlandese;  sono pero’ molto piu’ comuni in Lapponia perche’ la’ vi e’ una maggiore estensione di questo tipo di terreni.

I terreni acquitrinosi sono una rimanenza dell’ultima glaciazione:  si tratta di acque che ancora non si sono prosciugate e continuano ad impregnare il suolo soffice e sabbioso del nord Finlandia.  Le paludi sono visitabili con calzature adatte:  nella fattispecie stivali in gomma;  sono anche luoghi interessanti per la vegetazione particolare che vi si trova e per i molti laghi e laghetti che le acque abbondanti formano.

Tornando ai lamponi artici,  se ne possono fare deliziose marmellate con cui farcire cheesecakes,  paste e frolle:  come i lamponi veri e propri hanno all’interno delle minuscole parti dure,  ma non disturbano affatto.  Sono asprigni presi da soli,  ma la marmellata che se ne ricava e’ decisamente golosissima anche perche’ la loro consistenza e’ soffice e cermosa.  Sono anche ricchi di vitamina C.

Lapland sweet Delicacies.

This post is meant to share with you,  dear readers,  a few sweet treats made with Arctic Cloudberries (Rubus chamaemorus)  that we tasted during our recent trip to Lapland These unique berries are not forest fruits,  but swampland fruits;  they grow everywhere in Finland,  but they are particularly popular in Lapland due to the huge extension of swamps in that region. 

Finland is quite a wetland-rich country.  Wetlands are the result of a water leftover from the Quaternary glaciation;  the ice-sheet melted but the consequent water has not been absorbed by the soft and sandy land yet.  Swamps and wetlands can be quite picturesque:  the vegetation is different there and many small and bigger lakes add a touch of beauty.   It is recommendable to visit swamps with appropriate shoes:  namely rubber boots.

Going back to our Cloudberries,  they are quite unique fruits;  rich in C vitamin,  they are sour if tasted alone,  but as a jam they are delicious.  Of course you can decorate buns,  cheesecakes,  tarts,  with your cloudberry jam or jelly.  As well as raspberries,  they have small harder parts inside their creamy texture,  but they do not disturb much.

    I have never heard of cloudberries, they sound similar to our cranberries. The treats (both the buns and cheesecake) look delicious. YUM! Take care, have a happy day!

  4. The cloud berries look delicious on the cheesecake! You are great in showing All Seasons these great tempting captures! Yes, I would say rain boots are the only “shoes” to weather the swamps and wetlands! Have a great Advent week:) Jesh
