La funicolare di Turku.

Dal 2019 e’ attiva nel centro di Turku la prima funicolare esistente in Finlandia.  Si tratta di una cabina esterna che viaggia su rotaia e che collega il centro citta’ alla collina di Kakola.

Progettata dallo studio di architettura di Pekka Vapaavuori e realizzata dalla ditta italiana Leitner di Bolzano,  la funicolare di Turku e’ lunga 130 metri e ha un’elevazione di soli 30 metri.   Il percorso e’ di solo 1 minuto,  ma e’ stata realizzata dal comune di Turku col proposito di fornire un collegamento pedonale ai residenti della collina di Kakola,  dove non arrivano i mezzi pubblici.  La funicolare e’ gratuita per tutti:  residenti e turisti.

IMG_3356IMG_3357IMG_3358Naturalmente la funicolare e’ modernissima:  non c’e’ un manovratore ed e’ completamente automatizzata:  c’e’ una tastiera per i comandi,  come un vero ascensore.  La cabina e’ unica e non esiste controbilanciamento.

The Turku Funicular.

Since 2019,  the first funicular in Finland has been operating in the center of Turku.  It is an outdoor cabin that travels on rails and connects the city center to Kakola Hill.

Designed by Pekka Vapaavuori’s architectural studio and built by the Italian company Leitner from Bolzano,  the Turku funicular is 130 metres long and has an elevation of only 30 metres.  The journey takes only 1 minute,  but it was built by the Turku municipality with the aim of providing a pedestrian connection for residents of Kakola Hill,  where public transport does not serve.  The funicular is free for everyone:  locals and tourists.

Of course the funicular is totally modern:  there is no operator and is completely automated:  there is a keyboard for the controls,  like a real elevator.  The cabin is unique and there is no counterbalancing.

In the final photos:  a resident goes up with her bike;  the park along the route to Kakola.

  31. Thank you so much for this interesting post, Luisella… and for joining my photo challenge with it. I have of course heard about the Turku funicular but I have never used it and haven’t seen many photos either.
