L’ospite di Natale.

Quest’anno a Natale abbiamo avuto un ospite eccezionale nel nostro giardino,  anzi per essere precisi nella parte finale del giardino che termina col vero e proprio bosco:  una Lince!

La Lince Europea  (Lynx lynx)  è il più grosso tipo di lince esistente al mondo.   Con i suoi quasi 30kg di peso e la sua altezza di 60cm,  è fra i predatori più imponenti presenti in nord Europa.  Al momento si stima che in Finlandia ne vivano circa 2.200 individui.

La lince ha il corpo snello e agile,  affilati artigli che come quelli dei gatti sono retrattili,  le zampe posteriori più lunghe delle anteriori per poter saltare e muoversi anche nella neve alta.

Altre caratteristiche uniche di questo felino sono:  i ciuffi di pelo ai lati del muso e sulle orecchie e la coda cortissima,  la cui ultima parte è totalmente nera.

La lince ha il corpo ricoperto di una pelliccia folta e bellssima,  che le è costata quasi lo sterminio,  da parte degli umani.  Purtroppo per lei,  la sua pelliccia è valutata ancora oggi molto bene sul mercato nero.   Il colore della pelliccia varia leggermente a seconda della zona:  dal chiaro quasi giallastro al rossiccio chiazzato di macchie nere. 

Non è la prima volta comunque che una lince passa vicino a casa nostra e viene ripresa dalle mie fototrappole:  condividerò altre foto di questo stupendo animale più in là durante l’anno.

This year at Christmas time we had an exceptional guest in our garden,  or rather to be precise in the final part of the garden which ends with the actual forest:  a Lynx!

The European Lynx (Lynx lynx) is the largest type of lynx in the world.  With its weight of almost 30kg and its height of 60cm,  it is among the most imposing predators in northern Europe.  In Finland the estimated number of individuals at the moment is about 2,200.

The lynx has a slender and agile body,  sharp retractable claws and hind legs longer than the front ones,  to be able to jump and move even in deep snow.

Other unique characteristics of this feline are:  the tufts of hair on the sides of the muzzle and on the ears and the very short tail,  the last part of which is totally black.

The lynx boasts a thick and beautiful fur,  which almost cost it extermination by humans,  through the years.  Unfortunately,  its fur is still valued very highly on the black market today. The color of the fur varies slightly depending on the area:  from light almost yellowish to reddish with evident black spots.

However,  it is not the first time that a lynx has walked near our house and my trail-cam captured it:  I will share more photos of this wonderful animal later on.
