Gli Storni non sono particolarmente simpatici,  forse anche perche’ sono piuttosto numerosi,  nelle nostre campagne italiane;  ma sono comunque meravigliosi da guardare quando volano tutti insieme in grandi gruppi:  perfettamente coordinati e all’unisono formando come delle  nuvole scure.

…ed eccoli a terra!

Clouds of Starlings.    

Starlings are not the nicest birds, perhaps,  also because they are so numerous in the Italian countryside.  But surely they are great to watch as they fly together in big groups:  so well following each other and so precisely moving across the sky,  never losing their coordination.

In my parting shots…here they are,  on the ground.

  1. Watching clouds of starlings is fascinating. How do they manage to manouver so rapidly in close formation? And which bird is the first to decide to turn? Is it always the same bird?
    BTW, British birdwatchers use “a murmuration of starlings” as a collective noun describing such a cloud (or a flock…)

    Sie sind nicht nur in der Gruppe hervorragende und intelligente Vögel.
    Stare vermögen Stimmen und Geräusche nachzuahmen und in ihr Gesangsrepertoir zu integrieren

  10. vrij Lo osservo quando volano in un gruppo così numeroso, formano forme e non si scontrano mai. Sono anche uccelli dal bellissimo piumaggio, quando si siedono al sole tutti quei colori diventano protagonisti.
