Borghetto di Valeggio sul Mincio e’ un grazioso paesino al confine tra le province di Verona e Mantova. La sua storia risale al Medioevo, al tempo della dominazione Viscontea su quelle zone.

Costruito lungo le rive del fiume Mincio ed in armonia con esso, Borghetto ha sfruttato nei secoli l’energia prodotta da una serie di piccole cascatelle per il funzionamento di mulini ad acqua, che qui si trovavano numerosi.

Ancora oggi Borghetto conserva l’aspetto di un borgo medievale, con strette viuzze, una piazzetta e tutti gli edifici con muri in pietra o sasso.

Oggi pero’ Borghetto e’ un borgo prettamente turistico. Famosissimo e molto pubblicizzato, Borghetto e’ sede di rinomati ristoranti tipici, caffe’, piccoli negozi. Il lungofiume e’ il luogo ideale per una passeggiata la domenica pomeriggio, come si usa in Italia.

Fra i siti di particolare interesse da vedere a Borghetto: i resti delle mura Viscontee, del castello Scaligero di Valeggio che svetta su una collina raggiungibile a piedi e la chiesetta di San Marco.

Borghetto.

Borghetto di Valeggio sul Mincio is a pretty small village on the border between the provinces of Verona and Mantua. Its history dates back to the Middle Ages, at the time of the Visconti domination over those areas.

Borghetto was built along the banks of the Mincio river and in harmony with it. Over the centuries, its inhabitants have exploited the energy produced by a series of small waterfalls for the functioning of water mills, which were numerous.

Even today Borghetto retains the appearance of a medieval village with narrow streets, a small square and all the premises showing their stone walls.

Today, however, Borghetto is a merely tourist village. Very famous and much publicized, Borghetto is home to renowned restaurants, cafes, small shops. The riverside is the ideal place for a Sunday afternoon stroll, as is the custom in Italy.

Among the sites of particular interest to see in Borghetto: the remains of the Visconti fortifications, the Scaligero Valeggio Castle, which stands on a hill within walking distance and the church of St. Mark.
