The Willow Tit.

The Willow Tit (Poecile montanus)  is this small passerine whose livery bears very elegant colors:  gray,  white and black.  It is a resident bird in Finland and survives well in our winters.  It also comes willingly to take advantage of the seeds we put out,  but it doesn’t disdain the berries of the forest in autumn,  like most other animals.  It is about 12 cm long and there is no distinction of plumage between the sexes.

A FUN FACT:  This wonderful little bird is among those who are least afraid of human beings;  thanks to its prodigious memory it can even recognize whoever brings food and come very close to him.

Its Finnish name is:  Hömötiainen.

In this last photo it looks like a ball:  it has opened her feathers to let some air in and create an insulation layer between its little body and the outside temperature.

  1. Beautiful photos of Hömötiainen 💕 Even the birds have it so cold right now, but they are tough survivors. Hyvää ystävänpäivää!

Buona giornata!

  4. What a beautiful bird, nice photos! I love that they are friendly and have good memories. 🙂 Reminds me of my chickadees, they remember that I feed them because when I come out in the morning, so many of them greet me by the feeder. I feel like they are my pets! 🙂

  6. Your last capture of this small but smart bird is so cute. Exciting you were able to follow its movements for some time. Your view downward of the birdhouse with the tit is very successful! Many thanks for sharing these lovely winter details with All Seasons, and a happy belated Valentine’s Day to you, Jesh
