Anch’io sono una farfalla!

Ciao a tutti. Mi chiamo Ochlodes Sylvanus (venatus) e vi informo che anch’io sono una farfalla! Ho il corpo dotato di quattro ali e due antenne, come tutte le farfalle, mi cibo di nettare e impollino i fiori sui quali poso le mie delicate zampette (questo dovrebbe farvi piacere, no??) ma soprattutto faccio la metamorfosi, che è la caratteristica principale della mia specie!

Vivo sia in Italia che in Finlandia e sfarfallo per tutta l’estate; mi trovate in pianura ma anche tra le radure in collina. Perciò se mi vedete con le ali accartocciate in questa maniera molto particolare e tutta mia, non scambiatemi per un insetto strano e pericoloso! Sono un’innocua farfalla, anche se un po’ piccolina. E soprettutto…NON sono una mosca!!

Il mio nome finlandese è: Piippopaksupää, che fa riferimento alla mia “testa grossa”, ma in realtà sono carina ed elegante anch’io, come tutte le farfalle.

A am a Butterfly too!

Hello all. My name is Ochlodes Sylvanus (venatus). I am here today to inform you that I am a butterfly too! As well as my sisters I have a body with four wings and two antennae, I take nutrition from the nectar of the flowers where I lay my delicate legs; I pollinate them (this is essential for you, isn’t it??) and most important of all I go through the metamorphosis, which is the main characteristic to determine my species!

I live both in Italy and in Finland between fields and glades and hills; you can meet me in summer and even if I keep my wings in this unique position, which is only mine, please do not take me for an unwanted insect! I am a harmless butterfly: just a bit small. Above all, please…do not mix me with an annoying fly!

My English name is Large Skipper and my Finnish name is Piippopaksupää, which refers to my “big head”. But it is unfair…I am as beautiful as all my sisters! Got it?
