Tra Italia e Finlandia

Prima di partire per l’Islanda,  avevo letto che a Reykjavik c’e’ un numero record di monumenti:  proprio vero.  Spesso sono installazioni artistiche,  di cui non vi so dire nulla,  ma spesso sono dedicati a personaggi storici o concetti e valori condivisibili.  Ve ne propongo alcuni.

Il primo qui sopra si intitola:  “Acquaiolo”,  realizzato da Ásmundur Sveinsson e celebra i lavori umili.

Questo monumento vichingo si trova davanti al SAGA Museum,  il museo vichingo e al centro multimediale “Lava Show”,  al porto della citta’.

Le statue di Jón Sigurðsson,  leader del movimento per l’indipendenza dell’Islanda e di Kristian IX,  principe di Danimarca che consegna la prima Costituzione al popolo islandese.  Fronteggiano il Palazzo della Musica.

Monumento a Leif Erikson,  esploratore norreno,  conosciuto come il primo europeo a sbarcare nel continente americano,  precisamente in Terranova.  Si trova davanti alla Hallgrímskirkja.

Installazione:  “Il volto del sole”,  di Ásmundur Sveinsson.  Simbolo di energia,  rinascita e rinnovamento.  Si trova nel giardino del Menntaskóli.

Statua di Tómas Guðmundsson,  poeta,  realizzata da Halla Gunnarsdóttir,  nel delizioso parco Hljomskalagardurinn.

City of Monuments  #1.

Before leaving for Iceland,  I read that Reykjavik has a record number of monuments:  absolutely true.  Often they are artistic installations,  which I can’t tell you about,  but often they are dedicated to historical figures or shared concepts and values. I’ll suggest a few.

The first one above is titled “Water Carrier,” created by Ásmundur Sveinsson and celebrates humble labor.

The Viking monument is located in front of the SAGA Museum,  the Viking museum and the multimedia center “Lava Show”,  at the city harbor.

Thirdly,  the statues of Jón Sigurðsson,  leader of the Icelandic independence movement,  and Kristian IX, Prince of Denmark,  handing over the first constitution to the Icelandic people.  Opposite the Music Hall.

Monument to Leif Erikson,  Norse explorer known as the first European to land on the American continent,  specifically in Newfoundland.  It is located in front of Hallgrímskirkja.

Installation: “The Face of the Sun,” by Ásmundur Sveinsson.  Symbol of energy,  rebirth and renewal.  Located in the Menntaskóli garden.
