Art at Rotermann #2.
Alongside the works of artist Kalev Mark Kostabi, in Tallinn’s Rotermanni Quarter this Christmas there were also some works by his lesser-known brother: Indrek Paul Kostabi, also a creative, designer, and musician.
I am shating three irreverent versions of Warhol’s Marilyn. They are called: Marilyn 1 – Mr Malanga (2015); Marilyn 2 – Bling (2015); Marilyn 3 – Red (2015).
By leaving the Kostabi brothers’ exhibition, we realized that the entire Rotermanni is filled with contemporary artwork.
Following, the poster for the exhibition by Finnish artist Katja Tukiainen: “Pink Girls Totem.”
The artist invites everyone to identify with the Pink Girls, who are sensitive, kind, gentle, and cute, but also strong and resilient, just like each of us. Hence the exhibition’s message: art is gender-inclusive.
Katja Tukiainen studied in Helsinki and Venice and is a visual artist. Her creations also include comics.
Again this metal snake also stands out among the streets of the Rotermanni Quarter. It is titled “Rotermann’s Snake” and was created by artists Kalle Pruuden and Jaanus Arna. The work aims to highlight the dynamism and agility of the snake when in motion, but also its mimetic and multifaceted nature when still. The work is in fact steel gray but on sunny days it benefits from bluish reflections.
Finally, this tiger, which I can’t tell you about, confirms that in every corner of the Rotermanni Quarter there is a pinch of Pop Art to be experienced.
