Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Luglio è stato proprio bello in Finlandia:  dopo il caldo eccessivo di giugno,  sono arrivate le piogge che hanno rinverdito boschi e campi.  Quindi il meteo si è assestato sulle caratteristiche della tipica estate nordica:  temperature dai 15 C (di notte o in caso di piogge consistenti) ai 23-25C di giorno.  Devo dire che vivendo questo tipo di estate ho capito quanto corroborante può essere il fresco/freddo e ho cominciato anch’io a non mettere su troppe giacche al minimo spirar di vento,  come fanno i finlandesi.

In questo luglio lucente con giornate di sole intervallate da brevi acquazzoni pomeridiani,  noi abbiamo fatto molti percorsi in bicicletta,  andando a scoprire angoli dei dintorni che ancora non conoscevamo.  In auto ci siamo spinti anche più in là dei soli dintorni,  a scoprire località,  scorci,  borghi,  agriturismo,  ristorantini… all’insegna del cibo genuino e autoprodotto e del relax estivo.

Molti finlandesi prendono ferie nel mese di luglio e generalmente le trascorrono in patria,  oziando nelle seconde case in riva ai laghi,  approfittando della breve e verdissima estate,  dedicandosi agli hobby che non hanno tempo di curare in altri periodi.  Il nuoto,  lo sci d’acqua,  le gite in barca,  la pesca,  ma anche il giardinaggio e l’orto sono fra i più gettonati.

Adesso a fine luglio sono giunti a maturazione i lamponi nel bosco e naturalmente ci siamo recati a raccoglierli:  la marmellata di questi frutti è amabile e aromatica:  mi piace molto.  Stanno a poco a poco maturando anche i primi mirtilli:  altra bacca dall’allure considerevole!  Inoltre a luglio maturano anche le fragole (vere e proprie,  coltivate negli orti)  e le fragoline selvatiche.  Noi abbiamo tre file di fragole nel nostro orto e ce le siamo godute nell’insalata (come forse avete già letto nel mio blog io metto della frutta nelle insalate) e sul gelato;  con la rimanenza ho fatto marmellata.

In Italia luglio è stato quasi pauroso:  dapprima una grande ondata di calore e poi piogge e temporali devastanti hanno creato disagi enormi ai cittadini e ai turisti.  Addirittura ci sono stati decessi sia a causa del caldo che del maltempo.  I governi di destra (tutti) cercano di ignorare il cambiamento climatico:  dicono che il clima cambia comunque di tanto in tanto attraverso i secoli e che non è affatto colpa dell’uomo.  Che cosa importa di chi sia la colpa?   Non è comunque questo il momento di fare qualcosa?  I giornali di destra prendono in giro gli attivisti del clima,  li chiamano “gretini”,  ma che piaccia o no ciò che paventano è purtroppo un dato di fatto.

Di questo passo,  luglio e agosto non saranno più alta stagione turistica,  ma bassissima,  con prezzi stracciati,  perchè la gente sarà costretta a muoversi a giugno e settembre.  Non è però invitando i tedeschi a stare a casa loro che si salva la nostra industria turistica,  ma provvedendo affinchè continuino a venire.

La guerra continua con rinnovato ardore e la pace è sempre più difficile,  con questa Russia che pur non avendo alcun successo sul campo va avanti a bombardare obiettivi civili,  a minacciare e a deridere.  Ho letto da qualche parte che Putin sarebbe stato trascinato in questa guerra e che la NATO lo starebbe costringendo a proseguire,  non volendo la pace:  se così fosse,  Putin sarebbe un idiota in mano americana e non mi sembra affatto. In fin dei conti la pace sarebbe molto facilmente raggiungibile se la Russia ritirasse le proprie truppe dai territori altrui,  visto che la Russia ha iniziato questo inferno già nel 2014.

Proseguendo su questo tema doloroso,  vorrei scrivere due righe per confutare l’affermazione di Medvedev,  vice capo di qualcosa in Russia,  già destituito da qualcos’altro per inefficienza benchè già presidente della Federazione.  Il buon Medvedev ha scritto giorni fa che “la Finlandia é stata creata per sbaglio da Lenin”.  Ebbene,  questo certamente non è vero e se avete voglia di leggermi,  vi spiego perchè.

Primo:  La Finlandia in realtà esisite da sempre,  perchè da sempre,  dall’epoca delle migrazioni dei popoli preistorici,  esiste questo gruppo etnico che seguendo gli spostamenti degli animali si è stanziato in questi luoghi.  Quindi prima dell’avvento dell’agricoltura.  La prova provata di quanto dico sta nella lingua:  la Finlandia è stata per 700 anni sotto il dominio svedese e per un centinaio sotto il dominio zarista come granducato autonomo,  ma ha conservato sempre la propria individualità,  coesione sociale,  usi,  costumi e soprattutto lingua.  Quindi Lenin nel 1917 ha solo firmato l’atto finale di indipendenza di questo gruppo etnico,  già provvisto di un suo bagaglio culturale e dotato di una enorme spinta all’autonomia come nazione fra le nazioni.

Secondo:  Caro Medvedev,  ciò che ha fatto Lenin non è stato uno sbaglio,  ma una illuminazione divina!   Diventando indipendente nel 1917,  la Finlandia si è risparmiata cento e passa anni di dominazione sovietica,  cioè di deportazioni,  soprusi,  gulag,  lavori forzati ai dissidenti,  propaganda forzata,  torture e massacri… come è successo agli altri Paesi affacciati sul Mar Baltico.  Inoltre si è risparmiata di dover imbracciare le armi e invadere Paesi fratelli:  Ungheria,  l’allora Cecoslovacchia, Polonia…  La Finlandia invece in questi 100 anni si è sviluppata in democrazia (non abbiamo mai avuto un re) ed è diventata un Paese evoluto e civile in cui le cose funzionano.  Ti pare poco??

Terzo:  Sai come si chiamano quelli come te,  caro Dimitri?  Quelli che minacciano e deridono gli altri per mettersi in luce con il proprio capo?  E soprattutto, sai che fine fanno?  Vengono usati e gettati come calzini bucati.  Perciò per finire mi permetto di darti un consiglio:  stai attento alle finestre!

La notizia del mese qui in Finlandia è stata l’annessione finalmente anche della Svezia alla NATO e la visita di Biden a Helsinki al presidente Niinistö.  La prima è senz’altro una buona notizia,  poichè senza Svezia,  la Finlandia era un po’ “zoppa”,  per motivi di confini e di logostica militare.  E’ senz’altro anche una notizia che ha fatto infuriare Putin perchè rappresenta il suo ennesimo autogol e per il comportamento ambiguo dell’amico Erdogan,  che ha addirittura chiesto l’entrata nella UE.  Dal giorno dopo infatti l’accordo sul grano è stato interrotto.  Tutto ciò non toglie che tutti speriamo e invochiamo la pace:  su questo non c’è dubbio.

A Month in my Photos:

July was really beautiful in Finland:  after the excessive heat in June,  the rains arrived and made the woods and fields green again.  So the weather settled on the characteristics of the average Nordic summer:  temperatures from 15C (at night or in case of heavy rain) to 23-25C during the day.  I must say that living in this type of summer I realized how invigorating the cool/cold can be and I too began not to put on too many jackets at the slightest breath of wind, like the Finns do.

In this bright July with sunny days interspersed with short showers in the afternoon,  we have done many bike rides,  discovering corners of the surroundings that we did not yet know.  By car we went even further than just the surrounding area,  to discover places,  glimpses,  villages,  farmhouses,  restaurants… in the spirit of genuine,  self-produced food and summer relaxation.

Many Finns have their summer holidays in the month of July and generally spend them at home,  lazing around in second homes by the lakes,  taking advantage of the short, very green summer,  dedicating themselves to hobbies that they don’t have time to pursue in other periods.  Swimming,  water skiing,  boat trips,  fishing,  but also gardening and vegetable gardening are among the most popular.

Now,  at the end of July,  the raspberries in the woodlandss have ripened and of course we went to pick them:  the jam made from these fruits is sweet and aromatic:  I like it a lot.  The first blueberries are also ripening little by little:  another berry with a considerable allure!  In addition,  strawberries (real ones,  grown in the gardens)  and wild strawberries ripen in July.  We have three rows of strawberries in our garden and we enjoyed them in salads (as you may have already read in my blog I put fruit in salads) and on ice cream;  I made jam with the rest.

In Italy July was almost frightening:  at first a great heat wave and then devastating rains and thunderstorms created enormous inconvenience for citizens and tourists.  There have even been deaths due to both heat and bad weather.  Right-wing governments (all of them) try to ignore climate change:  hey say that the climate itself changes from time to time over the centuries and that it’s not man’s fault at all.  Who cares whose fault it is?  Isn’t this the time to do something anyway?  Right-wing newspapers make fun of climate activists,  they call mock them,  but like it or not what they fear is unfortunately a fact.

At this rate,  July and August will no longer be the high tourist season,  but very low,  with bargain prices,  because people will be forced to enjoy their holidays in June and September.

The war continues with renewed ardor and peace is increasingly difficult,  with this Russia which,  despite not having any success on the ground,  continues to bomb civilian targets,  to threaten and tease and insult the world.  I read somewhere that Putin would have been dragged into this war and that NATO would be forcing him to continue,  not wanting peace:  if that were the case,  Putin would be an idiot in American hands and I don’t think so at all.  After all,  peace would be very easy to achieve if Russia withdrew its troops from other people’s territories.  After all Russia started this hell already in 2014.

Continuing on this painful topic,  I would like to write a few lines to refute the statement of Medvedev,  deputy head of something in Russia,  already dismissed by something else for inefficiency although already president of the Federation.  Mr. Medvedev wrote days ago that “Finland was created by mistake by Lenin”.  Well,  this is certainly not true and if you want to read me,  I’ll explain why.

First:  Finland has actually always existed,  because this ethnic group has always existed, from the time of the migrations of prehistoric peoples, which following the movements of animals settled in these lands.  So before the advent of agriculture.  The proven proof of what I’m saying lies in their language:  Finland was under Swedish rule for 700 years and under Tsarist rule for a hundred as an autonomous grand duchy,  but it has always kept its own individuality,  social cohesion,  habits, customs and above all language.  So Lenin in 1917 only signed the final act of independence of this ethnic group,  already equipped with its own cultural background and endowed with an enormous drive towards autonomy as a state among states.

Second:  Dear Medvedev,  what Lenin did was not a mistake,  but divine enlightenment! Becoming independent in 1917,  Finland was spared a hundred and more years of Soviet domination,  i.e. deportations,  abuse,  gulag,  forced labor for dissidents,  forced propaganda,  torture and massacres… as happened to the other countries bordering the Baltic Sea.  Furthermore,  it was spared having to take up arms and invade sister countries:  Hungary,  what was then Czechoslovakia,  Poland…  Finland,  on the other hand,  has developed into a democracy over the past 100 years (we have never had a king)  and has become an evolved and civilized country in which things work.  Does that seem too little to you??

Third:  Do you know what people like you are called,  dear Dimitri?  Those who threaten and mock others to shine with their boss?  And above all,  do you know how they end up?  They are used and thrown away like pierced socks.  So to finish, let me give you some advice:  do not sit too close to windows!

The news of the month here in Finland was Sweden’s finally joining NATO and president Biden’s visit to Helsinki to President Niinistö.  The first is certainly good news,  because Finland was missing Sweden for borders and military logistics reasons.  It is certainly also news that has infuriated Putin because it represents yet another own goal and because of the ambiguous behavior of his friend Erdogan,  who has even asked for entry into the EU.  From the next day,  in fact,  the corn agreement was interrupted.  In spite of all this,  we all hope and pray for peace,  that’s out of question.
