Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Ottobre quest’anno e’ stato davvero mite in Finlandia:  ci ha portato si’ le piogge,  ma anche temperature piu’ alte delle medie stagionali,  cioe’ attorno ai 12 gradi pomeridiani.

Anche in Italia ottobre e’ stato mite,  nonostante sia sempre un dramma il passaggio dal caldo estivo ai primi freddi autunnali,  specie nelle ore del mattino.  Anzi,  direi che e’ stato decisamente caldo,  il che e’ stato un bene in quanto abbiamo risparmiato energia,  ma d’altra parte cio’ non depone bene in vista del futuro…

La novita’ di quest’anno e’ che ho trovato zero porcini,  nei boschi attorno a casa.  Il motivo e’ in parte che essendo stati in Italia praticamente tutto settembre,  mi sono certamente persa quella possibilita’;  pero’ va detto che solitamente a meta’ agosto gia’ ne trovavo,  mentre quest’anno…niente.   Ho poi letto sul giornale che nella parte meridionale del Paese quest’anno la raccolta dei funghi e’ stata particolarmente scarsa,  Si sa,  la natura funziona cosi’ e tutti gli anni e’ diversa.

Devo dire che anche gli alberi di Sorbo,  quest’anno scarseggiano di bacche,  per cui gli uccelli miratori sono rimasti senza spuntino:  se ne sono andati decisamente senza voltarsi indietro.

A questo proposito,  inserisco una vignetta trovata sul HS,  del disegnatore americano Dik Browne tradotto in finlandese:  il protagonista e’ il vichingo Harald il duro,  il quale dice al suo amico:  “Sembra che stia arrivando un inverno orribile”,  guardando proprio gli uccelli che se la battono.  (Lascio a voi le ulteriori interpretazioni della vignetta…)

Veramente ancora in questi ultimi giorni ho visto uno stormo di Cesene:  e’ possibile che abbiano deciso di restare,  come qualche piccolo stormo/famiglia di Merli decide di fare ogni inverno.  Anche lo scorso inverno ne ho avvistate nel centro di Salo,  che come sapete si trova su un braccio di mare.  Speriamo che riescano a trovare cibo sempre.

Adesso le giornate sono visibilmente corte e lo diventeranno ancor piu’ col cambio dell’ora.  Va detto pero’ che il periodo piu’ buio e’ da meta’ novembre a meta’ gennaio.

Fra le mie letture del mese,  un piccolo scrigno pieno di spunti di riflessione ho trovato che sia:  “Il primo caffe’ della giornata” dello scrittore giapponese Toshikazu Kawaguchi.  E’ un racconto semplice e dal sapore di quotidianita’ che a me e’ piaciuto.

Ve ne propongo un brano:  “Reiji capiva adesso quanto fosse importante la vita banale che diamo per scontata e quanta felicita’ si possa provare ad avere accanto la persona che amiamo.  Le cose che si decidono di dire domani spesso non si dicono mai piu’.  (…)  Ci sono sentimenti che andrebbero espressi a prescindere dal futuro.”   Non e’ forse vero che dovremmo dire piu’ spesso alle persone che amiamo quanto sono importanti?

La situazione covid in Finlandia e’ come nel resto del continente:  casi in salita ma non ospedalizzazioni e risvolti importanti.  Purtroppo non ne siamo fuori,  e soprattutto non ne sono fuori i fragili,  per cui mi auguro che tutti facciamo molta attenzione con questa categoria.  La cosa assurda e’ che mentre in Germania si sta tornando a raccomandare la mascherina in vista dell’inverno,  in Italia si vogliono togliere tutte le restrizioni:  saro’ molto preoccupata quando qualcuno si avvicinera’ alla mia anziana mamma senza protezione…secondo me infatti la mascherina andrebbe tenuta sempre negli ospedali e RSA,  perche’ non c’e solo il covid!

La guerra ha raggiunto i nove mesi ma non ha raggiunto nessun obiettivo prefissato,  a parte aver messo insieme innumerevoli crimini,  minacce e sabotaggi.  Come sempre le guerre le dichiarano i potenti ma le fa la povera gente:  in pratica si sta facendo una gran pulizia etnica delle minoranze che non hanno voce e che vengono bombardate senza pieta’ e mandate al fronte.  E dopo 70 anni siamo di nuovo qui a chiederci:  “Se questo e’ un uomo”.

Alle ultime elezioni il mio Paese e’ andato a destra e non e’ una direzione che mi piace,  affatto.  Dapprima pero’ mi sono detta:  meglio dare il beneficio del dubbio e stare a vedere… ma le prime delusioni sono gia’ arrivate.

Nella sera di Halloween vorrei raccomandare ai bambini/ragazzi che passeranno per le case a fare:  “Dolcetto o scherzetto” di assicurarsi bene a chi si sta suonando il campanello e di farlo educatamente,  per non disturbare anziani o malati che stanno tentando di prendere sonno.

A proposito di Halloween,  battuta di mio marito:  “A me non piace Halloween,  anzi,  ho deciso di boicottarlo:  non mi sono nemmeno guardato allo specchio,  stamane,  per non vedere mostri”!

Una curiosita’:  la festa di Ognissanti in Finlandia si celebra nel primo weekend di novembre;  il giorno 1 novembre e’ quindi lavorativo.

A Month in my Photos:

October this year was really mild in Finland:  it brought rains,  but also temperatures higher than the seasonal average,  that is around 12 degrees in the afternoon.

Even in Italy October was mild,  although the transition from the summer heat to the early autumn chills is always a tragedy,  especially in the morning.  In fact,  I’d say it was pretty hot,  which was good as we saved energy,  but on the other hand it doesn’t promise anything good for the future …

The news is that I found no Porcino mushrooms in the woodlands around my house.  The reason is partly because having been in Italy all of September,  I certainly missed the chance;  but it must be said that usually in mid-August I already found some,  while this year… nothing.  I then read in the newspaper that in the southern part of the country this year the mushroom crop was particularly scarce.  You know,  nature works like this and every year it is different.

I must say that also the Rowan trees,  this year are lacking in berries,  so the moving birds have been left without a snack:  they must have definitely left without looking back.

By the way,  I will insert here a cartoon by American cartoonist Dik Browne translated into Finnish that I found in the HS:  the protagonist is the Viking Hägar the Horrible,  who says to his friend:  “It seems that a horrible winter is approaching”,  looking at the migratory birds hastily flying away.  (There can be other meanings of this cartoon,  just this winter…)

Actually,  in recent days I have seen a flock of Fieldfares:  it is possible that they have decided to stay,  as some small flock/family of Blackbirds decides to do every winter.  Also last winter I spotted some in the center of Salo,  which as you know is located on a sea inlet.  I hope they can always find food.

This month I read a book which was a small jewel-box full of food for thought:  “Before Your Memory Fades” by Japanese writer Toshikazu Kawaguchi.   It is a simple story flavored with everyday life,  that I liked.

I will share a passage:  “Reiji understood now how important the banal life we take for granted was and how much happiness you can feel in having the person you love next to you.  The things you decide to say tomorrow are often never said at all.  (…)  There are feelings that should be expressed regardless of the future. ”   Isn’t it true that we should tell more often the people we love how important they are?

The covid situation in Finland is the same as in the rest of the European continent:  cases on the rise but not hospitalizations and important implications.  Unfortunately we are not out of it,  and above all the vulnerable ones are not out of it,  so I hope everyone will be very careful with this category.  Absurd enough,  while in Germany they are again recommending the mask in view of the winter season,  in Italy they want to uplift all restrictions:  I will be very worried when someone approaches my elderly mother without protection…in my opinion masks should be used always in hospitals and elderly people’s residences,  because not only covid is dangerous!

The war has reached nine months but has not achieved any set goals,  apart from having put together countless crimes,  threats and sabotage.  As always,  the powerful declare wars but the poor do them:  in this case a great ethnic cleansing is being carried out on minorities who have no voice and who are mercilessly bombed and sent to the front.  And after 70 years we are again here asking ourselves:  “If This Is A Man”.   (The latter is the title of a book by Italian writer and Jewish Holocaust survivor Primo Levi).

In the latest elections Italy chose Right-hand parties and it is not a choice that I like at all.  At first,  however,  I was thinking:  better to suspend the judgement and wait and see… but the first disappointments have already arrived.

By the way of Halloween,  my husband said a joke to me today:  “I do not like Halloween,  I will boycott it:  I didn’t even look at myself in the mirror this morning,  not to see monsters”!An info:   All Saints’ Day in Finland is celebrated on the first weekend of November;  November 1st is therefore a working day.
