Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Devo dire che anche maggio e’ stato frescolino e soprattutto ventoso;  il termomentro si spingeva verso i 10 gradi pomeridiani (talvolta oltre),  ma di notte precipitava sempre minacciosamente verso lo 0 o al di sotto.  Di conseguenza l’enorme quantita’ di neve che avevamo in giardino ci ha messo fino a meta’ mese per andarsene.  Finalmente da meta’ mese e’ arrivata la primavera!

A neve andata,  e’ ricominciata la stagione del giardinaggio:  prima di tutto abbiamo rastrellato per eliminare i rimasugli di foglie,  rametti caduti,  pigne,  aghi…  che erano rimasti intrappolati sotto per tutto l’inverno;  poi abbiamo ripristinato la nostra fontanella e abbiamo piantato le patate.  Sono spuntati i primi fiorellini primaverili:  crocus,  anemoni e scilla.  La stagione e’ un po’ indietro quest’anno rispetto al solito,  ma le cose qui cambiano velocemente e basta un po’ di sole per far procedere la vegetazione – ricordo poi che l’assidua presenza della luce aiuta molto.  Le giornate adesso sono infatti lunghissime:  alle 23 ci si vede ancora. 

Anche gli alberi stanno mettendo le foglioline e tutto e’ circonfuso di un tenue colore verdino.

Ad aprile abbiamo anche ricominciato a stendere il bucato all’aperto,  per la cronaca.

E’ in pieno svolgimento anche la stagione concertistica – non in qualche teatro famoso,  ma nel teatro della natura:  in questo periodo gli uccelli cantano praticamente giorno e notte e i loro cori sono melodiosamente variegati.  Ci sono infatti uccelli che ripetono sempre lo stesso verso,  come i fringuelli,  mentre altri,  come merli e tordi,  che inventano variazioni inaudite:  sono davvero abili e ascoltarli e’ una meraviglia.  Anche i pettirossi hanno un canto melodioso e qui attorno ce ne sono tanti.

Come avete sentito,  la Finlandia ha presentato domanda di aderire alla Nato,  assieme alla Svezia,  ponendo fine alla loro storica neutralita’.  Non vi sorprenda:  entrambi i Paesi erano gia’ parte fattiva dell’organizzazione e hanno fatto regolari esercitazioni insieme.  Il fatto e’ che l’esigenza di sicurezza e’ cresciuta.  Si era data fiducia alla Russia e si era cercato di mantenere rapporti di buon vicinato (la Svezia aveva anche iniziato a smantellare il proprio esercito) ma l’atteggiamento aggressivo mostrato con l’invasione immotivata dell’Ucraina ha cambiato la prospettiva.  Voglio anche precisare che questa mossa non e’ stata cercata da Nato,  ma proprio voluta dai cittadini di Svezia e Finlandia.  Inoltre chiariamo bene che l’espansione della Nato a est NON e’ affatto una minaccia per la Russia e non e’ una mossa di guerra,  ma una mossa di pace:  una mossa di deterrenza.  In Scandinavia non hanno intenzione di minacciare/attaccare/invadere proprio nessuno:  sono molto piu’ interessati ad altri temi,  come quelli ambientali,  che sono piu’ urgenti che mai.  Come ho detto nello scorso post,  i finlandesi sono stati un centinaio di anni sotto il dominio russo e non hanno nessuna voglia di ripetere l’esperienza!

Ovviamente i finlandesi sono diventati improvvisamente ostili,  secondo la Russia e subito si sono presi dei “nazisti”,  perche’ durante la II Guerra mondiale,  pur di riprendersi i territori annessi dagli invasori russi avevano fatto un patto con Hitler.  Non dimentichiamo comunque che i primi a venire a patti con Hitler sono stati proprio i russi:  mi riferisco al patto Molotov-Ribbentrop.  Perfino “l’orribile mortadellone nordcoreano” (l’azzeccata definizione purtroppo non e’ mia) si e’ sentito in dovere di esprimere la sua opinione negativa all’ingresso di Finlandia e Svezia nella Nato.  Quanto alle rimostranze della Turchia:  certo qui ci sono profughi,  anche Curdi,  come ci sono in Italia,  ma vengono accolti secondo le convenzioni internazionali.

Quello che il signor Putin sta facendo e’ davvero terrificante:  non solo quello che sta facendo al popolo ucrain,  ma anche cio’ che sta facendo al proprio popolo (quante scuole e ospedali avrebbe potuto costruire invece!),  al resto del mondo con il blocco del grano e ultimo ma non meno importante all’ambiente.  Quel che e’ chiaro e’ che questa e’ una guerra di conquista:  Putin vuole passare alla storia come un gran condottiero che ha allargato l’impero,  per cui chissa’ qual e’ la chiave giusta per arrivare ad una pace…

Condivido la considerazione che questa guerra e’ davvero la rivincita delle democrazie,  ma di quelle ben strutturate,  con regole rigide di turnover al comando,  perche’ se consideriamo che cosa puo’ fare un uomo solo al comando… (d’altra parte noi italiani dovremmo gia’ saperlo,  no?)

La conclusione del mio breve ragionamento e’ una citazione di Kant:  “La convivenza pacifica fra gli esseri umani non e’ una condizione normale“.

Il covid ci sta dando un attimo di tregua,  finalmente,  e non ci sembra vero di essere tornati alla vita normale,  qui in Finlandia.  In compenso abbiamo avuto il primo caso di monkeypox.

A Month in my Photos.

I have to say that May was also cool and above all windy;  the thermometer pushed towards 10 degrees C in the afternoon (sometimes beyond),  but at night it always plunged threateningly towards 0 or below.  As a result,  it took until mid-May to clear the huge amount of snow we had in the garden.  Now spring has finally arrived!

Once snow was gone,  the gardening season started again:  first of all we raked to remove the remainings of leaves,  fallen twigs,  pine cones,  needles … which had been trapped underneath for the whole winter;  then we restored our fountain and planted the potatoes.  The first spring flowers have bloomed too:  crocus,  anemones and scilla.  The season is a bit behind this year compared to usual,  but things change quickly here and a little sun is enough for the vegetation to proceed – I remind everybody that the constant presence of light helps a lot.  The days are now in fact very long:  at 11 p.m. we can see quite well.

Trees are putting out their leaves and everything is surrounded by a pale green color.

In April we also started hanging out our laundry again,  just for you to know.

The concert season is also in full swing – not in some famous theater,  but in the theater of nature:  in this period the birds practically sing day and night and their choirs are melodiously varied.  There are in fact birds that always repeat the same tune,  such as Finches,  while others,  such as Blackbirds and Thrushes,  invent unprecedented variations:  they are really skilled and listening to them is marvellous.  Robins also have a melodious song and there are many around here.

As you have heard,  Finland has applied to join NATO,  together with Sweden,  putting an end to their historical neutrality.  Do not be surprised:  both countries were already active parts of the organization and did regular exercises together.  The fact is that the need for security has grown.  Russia had been trusted and we tried to maintain good neighborly relations (Sweden had also started dismantling its own army) but the aggressive attitude shown with the unmotivated invasion of Ukraine changed the perspective.  I also want to clarify that this move was not sought by NATO,  but really wanted by the citizens of Sweden and Finland.  We also make it clear that NATO’s expansion to the east is NOT a threat to Russia at all and is not a move for war,  but a move for peace:  a deterrent move.  In Scandinavia they have no intention of threatening / attacking / invading anyone:  they are much more interested in other issues,  such as environmental issues,  which are more urgent than ever.  As I said in a previous post,  Finns have been under Russian rule for a hundred years and have no desire to go through it again!

Obviously,  Finns suddenly became hostile,  according to Russia,  and were immediately called “Nazis”,  because during World War II,  in order to recover the territories annexed by the Russian invaders,  they had made a pact with Hitler.  Let us not forget,  however,  that the Russians were the first to come to terms with Hitler:  I am referring to the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.  Even “the horrible North Korean mortadella” (this suitable definition is unfortunately not mine) felt like expressing his negative opinion on the entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO.  As for Turkey’s grievances:  certainly there are refugees here,  including Kurds,  as there are in Italy,  but they are welcomed according to international conventions.

What Mr. Putin is doing is truly terrifying: not only what he is doing to the Ukrainian people,  but also what he is doing to his own people (how many schools and hospitals could have been erected instead!), to the rest of the world with the grain blockade and last but not least. to the environment.  What is clear is this is a war of conquest:  Putin wants to go down in history as a great leader who has enlarged the empire,  so who knows what the right key is to reach a peace agreement…

 

I share the consideration that this war is really the revenge of democracies,  but well-structured ones,  with rigid rules of turnover in command,  because if we consider what a man alone in command can do … (on the other hand we Italians should already know …)

The conclusion of all this is a quote from Immanuel Kant:  “Peaceful coexistence among human beings is not a normal condition”.

At last covid is giving us a break and it feels so nice to be back to nermal life,  here in Finland.  What a pity we had the first case of monkeypox,  though.
