Serena domenica a tutti, cari lettori!

Ma noooo…che avete pensato? Il protagonista del mio post di oggi e’ Donald Fagen, cantante e musicista americano, co-fondatore del gruppo Steely Dan, la cui musica si ispirava al jazz, ma anche al funky,al rock, al blues.

Nel 1982 Donald Fagen pubblico’ un album solista di cui faceva parte il brano che vi propongo oggi: “What a beautiful World”; un brano secondo me bellissimo e anche molto attuale, sia come musicalita’ che come testo.

Fagen parla del mondo futuro (anche ironicamente) come lo immaginava nel 1982. Cito testualmente: “Il futuro e’ luminoso / andremo da New York a Parigi in 90 minuti / le citta’ funzioneranno ad energia solare / bastera’ un computer saggio per prendere le decisioni importanti / sara’ programmato da uomini giusti e solidali / saremo eternamente liberi ed eternamente giovani”.

Che dire? Oggi Fagen ha 73 anni e forse il quarantennio appena trascorso non e’ stato proprio come lui lo immaginava…

Donald’s beautiful World.

Please do not be mistaken: the hero of my post today is Donald Fagen, American singer and songwriter, co-founder of the Steely Dan band, whose music was inspired by jazz, but also funky, rock, blues.

In 1982 Donald Fagen released a solo album which included the song that I share today: “What a beautiful World”; in my opinion a wonderful song, still appreciable both for music and lyrics.

Fagen talks about the future (also ironically) as he imagined it in 1982. You’ll find the lyrics here below.

Today Donald Fagen is 73 and maybe slightly disappointed of the latest 40 years’ history.

Anyway the masterpiece remains. You just listen and enjoy it.
