Palmanova è  una cittadina davvero graziosa,  pulita e ben tenuta,  in provincia di Udine.  Famosa per la forma a stella della sua pianta,  fu costruita dai veneziani nel secolo XVI come roccaforte difensiva dei loro territori verso nord.   Nelle foto sopra:  la famosa Piazza Grande,  di cui con un piccolo sforzo di fantasia,  si può apprezzare la pianta a forma di stella.

Io,  girando come al solito con il naso in su per le vie di Palmanova,  ho scorto anche una moltitudine di comignoli di fattezze diverse e talvolta inusuali,  che vi propongo in questo post. 

(Naturalmente seguirà un post più completo con le bellezze della città più avanti… 😉 )

Chimneys in Palmanova.   

Palmanova is a lovely and tidy small town in northeastern Italy,  in the region Friuli,  in the province of Udine.  Built by the Venetian Republic in the 16th century as a defense citadel of its ultimate northern borders,  Palmanova boasts a peculiar star-shaped line of outer walls,  whose style reflects in the inner part of town:  for instance in the main square “Piazza Grande” in my above photos.

The remarkable features I would like to show you today,  though,  are the many chimneys,  different in shape and colours,  placed on the rooftops.  You can appreciate them if you walk,  as I do,  with your nose up.

  9. Ciao! Avrei voluto visitare Palmanova tornando dalla Slovenia e Croazia, purtroppo non c’è stato tempo a causa delle code in autostrada, che ci hanno fatto perdere diverse ore, per via di un incidente (fortunatamente senza feriti). Speriamo ci sarà occasione di visitare questa bella cittadina!

  24. Sai che l’ho visitata un’estate di circa vent’anni fa?!di ritorno da Lignano Pineta e ne ho un bel ricordo,davvero una città “luminosa” e dalla pianta che fa pensare ad un libro fantasy

  31. Beautiful photos of the town piazza. It’s a place I’ve never visited, but it looks attractive. I imagine you took the photos during the heat of the day when people were indoors resting or having lunch. I’m sure the evenings are more lively there!

  35. Your images reveal a great ambience (atmosphere) in this town! Love all the different kinds of chimneys in your video. Love the big center squares they have in Italy. The city squares in the Netherlands are too small for my taste. They don’t have that spacious feeling like here. Is this in the North East of Italy?
