The Muscovy duck. This animal has been domesticated and brought up by man for centuries for its excellent meat and its rich egg production. It is frequently seen in Italian farmhouses still nowadays, together with turkeys and hens. The female is not really a proper mother: she hatches distractedly and predators can easily steal her eggs. Still it makes many eggs and the ducklings grow very quickly. (Cairina moschata).
