Fra gli aspetti piu’ curiosi che contraddistinguono le varie civilta’ e culture nel mondo,  c’e’ senz’altro il modo e il luogo per dormire.

In Finlandia in genere si usa un materasso appoggiato su una rete a doghe in legno.  Il materasso e’ in parte inserito all’interno della struttura del letto e ne sporge per circa meta’.

Sopra il materasso si usa un coprimaterasso spesso circa 5/6 cm attorno al quale viene rimboccato il lenzuolo di sotto,  che ovviamente non puo’ andare attorno al materasso,  essendo questo infossato dentro la struttura del letto.

Qui non si usano lenzuola e coperte,  ma solo piumoni;  pesanti per l’inverno e leggerissimi per l’estate.   Quindi si ci sbizzarrisce nelle fantasie e nei colori dei copripiumoni.  Nella foto:  un completo di Marimekko.

Inoltre,  la caratteristica che forse molti di voi considereranno una bizzaria:  i piumoni sono sempre singoli,  anche per i letti matrimoniali.  Qui in Finlandia ogniuno ha il proprio piumone e se lo gestisce come vuole,  dormendo,  e soprattutto puo’ usare il piumone dello spessore che desidera.   Nella foto:  un completo signolo di Finlayson.

Infine,  il letto si completa con un copriletto,  che viene fatto scivolare verso la pediera durante la notte.

In Bed.

Among the diverse aspects that distinguish various civilizations and cultures around the world,  one is undoubtedly the way and place of sleeping.

In Finland, a mattress placed on a wooden slatted base is typically used.  The mattress is partially inserted into the bed frame and protrudes about halfway.

A 5-6 cm thick mattress cover is placed over the mattress,  around which the bottom sheet is tucked.  This sheet obviously cannot go around the mattress,  as it is embedded within the bed frame.

Here we don’t use sheets and blankets,  but only duvets;  heavy for the winter and very light for the summer.  So we can indulge in the patterns and colors of the duvet covers.  In the photo:  a Marimekko set.

Then,  a feature that many of you may consider odd:  duvets are always single,  even for double beds.  Here in Finland,  everyone has their own duvet and can manage it as they wish while sleeping,  and above all they can use the duvet of any thickness they like.  In the photo:  a single duvet set by Finlayson.

Finally,  the bed is completed with a bedspread,  which is slid toward the footboard during the night.

  6. This bed construction: “a mattress placed on a wooden slatted base,. It keeps spreading due to the expansion of a huge Swedish furniture retailer. I don’t want to argue whether this design is originally Finnish or Swedish or Nordic or whatever.
    The idea of having two single duvets in a double bed is certainly commendable.

  8. Che belli. Alcuni miei parenti sono stati antesignani, pur non essendo finlandesi. Avevano due lettini singoli accostati a mò di letto matrimoniale. Ricordo che rimasi molto colpita, poi mi feci spiegare da papà il perché. Il loro fu un matrimonio combinato ed anche parecchio infelice purtroppo. Qui sono ben altre le motivazioni, un abbraccio, cara Luisella! 🤗😊

  9. La storia dei due piumini mi sembra geniale, così ognuno sceglie la temperatura a seconda delle proprie necessità. Qui c’è gente che tiene il piumone invernale fino a giugno, e io dormo solo col lenzuolo già adesso…

  11. Ma no…sono facilissimi. Basta farli scivolare dentro i loro copripiumini. Però ammetto che se sono singoli è molto più facile! Io al contrario non voglio più le coperte, perché pesano, mentre i piumini sono caldi e leggeri. Ma forse è solo questione di abitudine. Buona serata! 👋😊

  15. Actually in Italy we still have the different system, where the mattress is just on top of the bed structure, not partly inside. To me it looked peculiar when I saw it first. The single duvets are easier to deal with.

  17. My ex/husband’s family was from Germany, so we made our beds this way. In fact, I still make my bed this way and by duvets when I go to Germany, because the duvet sizes are not the same in US. I immediately thought those sheets were Marimekko. I loved their fresh style with flowers. My mother still has some of my old Marimekko sheets from 50 years ago. LOL, she said she could not part with them, they are so pretty. I like all the patterns of duvets to choose from, they are so pretty and beds are sure easy to make with just a duvet. Thanks for making me smile.

  18. My bed sits inside the frame some on the wood slates. I do like a thick mattress cover.

    I like the idea of the single duvets, I do not like my covers being pulled off me.
