Tra Italia e Finlandia

Oggi vi propongo una serie di vedute di Vienna scattate dalla ruota panoramica del Prater.  Il Prater,  il grande parco viennese,  si distende su ben 6 km quadrati e offre non solo passeggiate nel verde e distensione,  ma anche molte possibilita’ di praticare sport.

Tutti conoscete la ruota panoramica che si trova nel grande parco Prater di Vienna.  Un simbolo della citta’ dal 1897.  Questa bellissima ruota e’ stata tra le primissime al mondo;  il suo scopo era di festeggiare l’imperatore francesco Giuseppe.  E’ alta 64.7 metri,  ha un diametro di 61 metri ed e’ attrezzata con 30 cabine lignee rosse assolutamente pittoresche.   Alcune sono state sostituite a seguito dei danneggiamenti subuti durante la II guerra mondiale.  Si muove alla velocita’ di 2.7 km orari.

Vi propngo un paio di foto in bianco e nero:  in quest’ultima ho lasciato a colori solo la cupola verde della Karlskirche.

Invece nella foto seguente ho lasciato a colori solo la bella facciata in stile Romanico-renano della monumentale Trinitarierkirche,  la chiesa dedicata a san Francesco d’Assisi.

Un ultimo ricordo personale:  nel grande parco del Prater,  nella sezione giostre,  attiva dal 1766 per il divertimento di tutti i viennesi,  c’e’ questa giostra particolare,  nella quale si fa un percorso in un sentiero d’acqua,  a bordo di tronchi di legno.  L’ho provata in una sera d’estate del 1983 insieme ad alcuni amici,  che ricordo con piacere.

Vintage Prater.

Today I’m sharing a series of views of Vienna taken from the Prater Ferris wheel.  The Prater,  Vienna’s largest park,  extends over 6 square kilometers and offers not only walks in the greenery and relaxation,  but also numerous opportunities for sports.

You’re all familiar with the Ferris wheel in Vienna’s Prater Park.  A symbol of the city since 1897,  this beautiful wheel was among the very first in the world;  its purpose was to celebrate Emperor Franz Joseph.  It is 64.7 meters high,  has a diameter of 61 meters and is equipped with 30 absolutely picturesque red wooden cabins.  Some were replaced following damage sustained during World War II.  It moves at a speed of 2.7 km/h.

Here are a couple of black-and-white photos:  in the latter,  I left only the green dome of the Karlskirche in color.

In the following photo,  however,  I left only the beautiful Rhenish Romanesque façade of the monumental Trinitarierkirche,  the church dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi,  in color.

One last personal memory:  in the large Prater park,  in the amusement park section,  open since 1766 for the amusement of all Viennese,  there is this particular carousel,  where you ride along a water path,  aboard wooden logs.  I tried it on a summer evening in 1983 with some friends,  which I remember fondly.
