Nebbia e Tilhi.

Fog and Tilhi.

While walking in the woods on a foggy and snowy afternoon,  I came across a small flock of  Waxwings (in Finnish: Tilhi),  who had evidently stopped here for the winter,  not migrated.

Aren’t they terribly cute?

They were feeding on the berries left on the Rowan trees,  as is often seen in autumn.

  2. What a wonderful blog — just looking at the photos is a joy. The snow, the mist, the atmosphere… it’s all so beautiful. I find the waxwing absolutely stunning, although the name is a bit funny to me. In Dutch it’s called pestvogel, and pest means disease, which sounds rather odd for such a lovely bird.

The photos of the waxwings feeding are especially beautiful — and that little crest is fantastic. And seeing them in such a large group is amazing. Do they always come in flocks? Truly beautiful to see.
