Durante il weekend dell’indipendenza,  dal 5 al 8 dicembre scorso,  a Turku si e’ tenuta l’annuale manifestazione “Path of Light”,  o “Valon Polku”,  una serie di installazioni luminose proposte da artisti contemporanei.  Come sempre ha avuto luogo sulle rive del fiume Aura,  parzialmente gelato,  in un contesto molto scenografico.

Noi siamo andati il pomeriggio dell’8 dicembre.  Le installazioni sono chiaramente visibili dalle 17 in poi, quando l’oscurita’ invernale cala sulla citta’.   La serata non era affatto fredda e nemmeno il vento ci ha disturbati,  percio’ abbiamo fatto l’intero percorso sul lungofiume.

Di tutte le istallazioni viste,  vi propongo la piu’ interessante e importante secondo me.  Si intitola “Nordic Butterflies” e ritrae alcune fra le farfalle che vivono a queste latitudini.  Il messaggio degli artisti Samuli Halla e Katja Kouvalainen,  creatori del progetto,  e’ di porre l’attenzione sulla perdita di biodiversita’ che il nostro pianeta soffre ogni anno.

Butterflies in Turku.

During the Independence weekend,  from December 5th to 8th,  Turku hosted the annual “Path of Light”,  or “Valon Polku”,  a series of light installations by contemporary artists.  As always,  it took place on the banks of the partially frozen Aura River,  in a very scenic setting. 

We went on the afternoon of December 8th.  The installations are clearly visible from 5 pm onwards,  when the winter darkness falls on the city.  The evening was not cold at all and the wind did not bother us,  so we walked the entire route along the riverside.

Of all the installations seen,  I will propose the most interesting and important in my opinion.  It is called “Nordic Butterflies” and portrays some of the butterflies that live in northern latitudes.  The message conveyed by artists Samuli Halla and Katja Kouvalainen,  project creators,  is to draw attention to the loss of biodiversity that our planet suffers every year.

As a side show,  a performance by the “Tip Top Walkers” dancers livened up the installation.
