Traditional Attires.

As a corollary to yesterday’s post on the Finnish mass,  which is called: “Suomalainen Messu”,  I will propose today some traditional costumes that some ladies were wearing.  They are masterpieces of needlework and patience,  often handmade entirely by the owners themselves or their ancestors.

Even the official photographer to the event was wearing one.

I asked all the ladies for permission before photographing them and of course they were very happy to show and illustrate them.

The dress of the lady in the final photo comes from the Pohjanmaa region,  on the west coast of Finland,  please note the leather shoes.

  1. I always like to see people wearing their traditional costumes and I hope that even the younger ones will wear them, because it would be a shame if these dresses would one day just be seen in museums.
The embroideries of the hats are masterpieces.
Thank you for showing them and kindest regards,
    Christa
