(English version below)

Naali.
On our planet there are many types of fox, from the Red fox that you are used to seeing in my blog, to the desert fox (the Fennec), each with its own somatic characteristics and abilities.
Today we are talking about the Arctic Fox (Vulpes lagopus), which lives in the arctic regions of the northern hemisphere. Its fur is pure white in winter with rare streaks in summer, to blend in with the frosty environment of the arctic tundra. The body is round to minimize heat loss.
The Arctic fox has been living in Finnish Lapland since ever, feeding on small rodents, but also on berries and birds’ eggs. It is one of the most hunted fox species ever due to its magnificent fur, in fact it is classified as: extremely endangered. As you have guessed, its Finnish name is Naali. Perversely enough, the Red fox is among its enemies.
In my photos: the Arctic tundra in summer, a rocky environment with minimal presence of vegetation, mostly in the form of shrubs, moss and lichens.
Then a shot of the Arctic fox found in the net, a stamp dedicated to this pretty animal by the Finnish post and an article by newspaper HS.

I have seen them in Canada’s Arctic – they are widespread across the entire northern breath of the country – and happily are not endangered. They are so beautiful.

They are unique indeed. Unfortunately we tried to see one in a wildlife park once, but it was sleeping in its den…

A very beautiful photo of moss-covered stones. That’s where moss should grow, not on my lawn 🙂

A beauiful fox indeed that has to survive in the not most friendly environments….

The close-up of the Naali is especially striking. I really like the first pic too. The plight of the fox is concerning.
