Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Aprile in Italia e’ stato fresco e ventilato,  regalandoci un weekend Pasquale in cui abbiamo avuto voglia di ritrovarci in casa,  piuttosto che all’aperto.  Pur essendo sempre pero’ molto soleggiato:  almeno a Verona non e’ mai piovuto.  La crisi idrica quindi continua.

In Finlandia Aprile e’ stato diviso in due:  fino a Pasqua ci ha portato nevicate abbondanti,  dopo invece e’ iniziato un periodo di innalzamento termico che ha fatto rapidamente sciogliere la neve e ha portato a lambire i 20 gradi pomeridiani.  Le giornate piacevolmente soleggiate,  tiepide e lunghe ci hanno fatto capire che la stagione fredda e’ alle spalle.

Adesso le giornate sono talmente lunghe che alle 22.00 non occorre accendere la luce dentro casa,  per cui e’ iniziato il periodo di risparmio elettricita’.  In questo momento l’elettricita’ in Finlandia sul mercato libero costa dai 2 ai 12 centesimi di Euro;  le variazioni di prezzo,  che sono quotidiane,  dipendono dal metodo di produzione:  vento,  acqua,  nucleare…e si controllano su una app.

Naturalmente dopo il ritiro della neve e’ iniziata la lunga stagione del giardinaggio,  hobby molto coltivato da queste parti.  Bisogna prima di tutto ripulire e liberarsi delle scorie lasciate dall’inverno e poi procedere a piantare i fiori stagionali…quasi una metafora della vita,  o no?

Gli uccelli migratori sono tornati,  anche se non tutti:  coloro che si cibano di insetti arrivano per ultimi.  Intanto sono iniziati i concerti:  Fringuelli,  Verdoni,  Cince,  Pettirossi,  Chiffchaff,  Merli e Tordi ci stanno rallegrando da mane a sera.  Fare una passeggiata nella natura adesso e’ come sentire un’orchestra e mi meraviglio di chi esce a camminare con gli auricolari nelle orecchie:  volete dirmi che ascoltare i Doors e’ meglio che ascoltare un Fringuello?  😉

La notizia più importante del mese in Finlandia è stata la virata verso destra alle recenti elezioni politiche.  La premier precedente,   infatti,  col suo partito Socialdemocratico sono arrivati terzi,  con il 19.9 % delle preferenze,  mentre il primo partito è il Partito conservatore con il 20.8 e il secondo il partito nazionalista Veri Finlandesi con il 20.1.  Va da se’ che il futuro parlamento avrà una composizione totalmente diversa.  Mi ha molto stupito questa virata a destra dei finlandesi,  tradizionalmente restii a questa parte politica,  anche perche’ comportera’ inevitabilmente tagli al welfare e allargamento della forbice di ricchezza fra le classi sociali,  aspetto anche questo che e’ ancora abbastanza sconosciuto da queste parti.

Fra le ragioni della virata,  le preoccupazioni per il debito pubblico salito sotto la premiership Marin a ben 141 milioni di Euro (il debito pubblico italiano e’ di 2770 miliardi di Euro e in Italia non sembra che nessuno se ne stia preoccupando…anzi);  in secondo luogo l’euroscetticismo,  motivato anche dal fatto che l’ UE concede denari/prestiti agevolati a Stati troppo poco virtuosi.

A proposito:  il numero di parlamentari in Finlandia e’ 200.Come ho già detto, mi fa molto sorridere l’idea di un deputato dell’attuale governo di fare una legge per mettere al bando i termini stranieri dalle comunicazioni della pubblica amministrazione.  Per una serie di motivi:  prima di tutto perchè dominare una lingua,  incasellarla,  sagomarla non è possibile;  la lingua è un corpo vivo che evolve con dinamiche tutte sue,  a seconda di come viene usata dalla gente.  Secondo perchè volendo tradurre in italiano alcuni termini,  si rischia di ingenerare confusione:  certe parole sono infatti talmente integrate nella lingua italiana che sicuramente per qualcuno sarà perfino sconvolgente venire a sapere che non lo sono;  mi riferisco a parole come “record”,  “film”,  “buffet”…

Al contrario,   io sono per lo studio approfondito delle lingue straniere,  per me l’ideale sarebbe che i nostri giovani ne imparassero almeno due fin da piccoli e che le parlassero correttamente,  per esempio mettendo gli accenti giusti.  Sarebbe una buona cosa.  Non come ha fatto recentemente un politico italiano che in un suo tweet ha scritto “trade union” volendo significare “trait d’union”!  (Fonte:  Propaganda Live)

Comunque anche nella Finlandia di oggi ci si chiede quanto sia utile limitare l’uso dei forestierismi…ma la risposta è sempre quella:  la lingua è un ente con vita propria.

Ad Aprile nella regione Trentino-Alto Adige che si trova a ridosso delle Dolomiti,  è avvenuto lincrescioso fatto che un orso (apparentemente una femmina,  quindi forse con cuccioli) ha aggredito a morte un runner che era appunto di corsa fra i boschi.  La soluzione al problema prospettata dagli amministratori è stata subito quella di cercare l’animale ed abbatterlo.  Personalmente non sono d’accordo:  a parte che l’aggressione ad un essere umano da parte di un orso è un fatto rarissimo (molte più persone vengono ammazzate ogni anno mentre attraversano sulle strisce pedonali:  nel 2022 sono state 307 in Italia),  inoltre non sappiamo la dinamica del fatto:  il runner forse non doveva trovarsi lì e forse doveva farsi sentire,  dando modo all’animale di allontanarsi… In ogni caso l’abbattimento non è mai la soluzione:  non possiamo punire un animale solo perche’ si e’ comportato da animale.  Che dovremmo fare allora con i mariti che commettono femminicidio?  In Italia nel 2022 sono state uccise circa 120 donne.

Inoltre come ho gia’ detto in svariati post,  se un orso che uccide un uomo fa notizia,  dovrebbe farla anche una zanzara che semina febbre tropicale:  nelle ultime estati anche in Veneto ci sono stati casi di West Nile,  a causa della migrazione delle zanzare verso il clima italiano che si avvia ad essere sempre piu’ simile a certe zone tropicali.

Purtroppo il covid ha leggermente rialzato la testa qui in Finlandia:  ci sono infatto 20 ricoverati in terapia intensiva.  Brutta notizia per le persone fragili.

La guerra in Ucraina purtroppo non da’ segni di voler cessare.  In Italia i movimenti pacifisti stanno per organizzare manifestazioni per la pace,  l’intenzione e’ quella di far sedere i due contendenti ad un tavolo di trattative.  L’idea e’ buona,  ma temo che i pacifisti italiani siano troppo ottimisti:   forse pensano che cedere pezzi di territorio ucraino alla Russia possa far finire l’invasione;  attenzione a non commettere l’errore che e’ stato fatto con Hitler:  gli e’ stata concessa la Polonia,  pensando che si sarebbe fermato e invece il giorno dopo gia’ marciava su Parigi.  D’altra parte,  se Putin invadesse il Veneto,  glielo cederemmo senza combattere?

Cio’ che mi meraviglia e’ l’assoluta mancanza di reazione da parte del popolo russo,  che continua a supportare i propri leader e la guerra.  Ovviamente se i dissidenti vengono avvelenati o condannati a 25 anni di prigione solo per essersi espressi contro la guerra,  la gente comune si guarda bene dal protestare.  Ma questo e’ l’ennesimo motivo per il quale non possiamo avere simpatia alcuna per il regime di Putin,  per come ha ridotto la Russia.

E’ appena passato il 25 aprile,  giorno importantissimo per il nostro Paese,  nel quale si celebra la Liberazione dal Nazi-fascismo.  Come gia’ ultimamente,  la giornata e’ stata stravolta dalle polemiche:  trovo davvero fuori luogo i tentativi di distorcere la storia e di creare divisioni in quella che dovrebbe essere una ricorrenza che ci accomuna.  Il fascismo e’ stato il male assoluto:  prendiamone finlamente le distanze,  a tutti i livelli!

CURIOSITA’:  proprio 50 anni fa il campione di Moto GP Jarno Saarinen vinceva in Francia nelle due categorie 250 e 500,  dopo una caduta del nostro Giacomo Agostini.   Saarinen e’ stato una figura importante nel mondo delle moto poiche’ fu lui a “inventare” la tecnica di aprire il ginocchio verso l’esterno in curva.   Potete leggere qualche altra notizia su Saarinen nel mio post:  https://traitaliaefinlandia.com/2017/09/04/un-campione-sfortunato/

A Month in my Photos.

April in Italy was cool and breezy,  giving us an Easter weekend in which we felt like meeting indoors rather than outdoors.  Although it was sunnyall the time:  at least it never rained in Verona.  The water crisis therefore continues.

In Finland April was divided in two:  up to Easter it brought us heavy snowfalls,  whereas after Easter we enjoyed rising temperatures which quickly melted the snow and reached 20 degrees C in the afternoon. The pleasantly sunny,  warm and long days made us understand that the cold season is behind us.

Now the days are so long that at 10.00 pm there is no need to turn on the light inside the house,  thus the electricity saving period has begun.  At the moment electricity in Finland on the free market costs from 2 to 12 Euro cents;  the price changes daily,  depending on the production method:  wind,  water,  nuclear… and we check it by an app.

Of course,  after the snow receded,  the long season of gardening began:  a hobby widely cultivated in Finland.  First of all,  you need to clean up and get rid of the waste left over from winter and then proceed to plant seasonal flowers…almost a metaphor for life,  isn’t it?

Migratory birds are back,  even if not all:  those who eat insects will arrive last.  Meanwhile,  the concerts have begun:  Chaffinches,  Green finches,  Robins,  Tits,  Chiffchaffs,  Blackbirds and Thrushes are cheering us up from dawn to dusk.  Going for a walk in nature is now like hearing an orchestra and I’m amazed at those who go out to walk with earphones:  do they mean that listening to the Doors is better than listening to a singing Bullfinch?  😉

The biggest news of the month in Finland was the rightward swing in the recent general election.  In fact,  the previous prime minister  with her Social Democratic party was third,  with 19.9% of the preferences,  while the first party is the Conservative Party with 20.8 and the second the nationalist party True Finns with 20.1.  It goes without saying that the future parliament will have a totally different composition.  I was very surprised that the Finns turned to right,  as they are traditionally reluctant to take this political side,  also because it will inevitably lead to cuts in welfare and a widening of the wealth gap between social classes,   an aspect that is still quite unknown in these lands.

Among the reasons for the turnaround are concerns about the public debt which has risen under the Marin premiership to as much as 141 million Euros (the Italian public debt is 2,770 billion Euros and in Italy it does not seem that anyone is worrying about it);  secondly the “Euroscepticism”,  also motivated by the fact that the EU grants subsidized money/loans to States that are not virtuous enough.

As I have already said,  the idea of a deputy from the current Italian government to make a law to ban foreign terms from public administration communications makes me smile.  For a number of reasons:   first of all because it is not possible to dominate a language,  modify it,  shape it;  a language is a living body that evolves with its own dynamics,  depending on how people use it.  Secondly because if you want to translate some terms into Italian,  you may cause confusion:  certain words are in fact so integrated into the Italian language that it will certainly be even shocking for someone to learn that they are not;  I’m referring to words like “record”, “film”, “buffet”…

Furthermore,  I am for the in-depth study of foreign languages;  in my view the ideal would be for our young people to learn at least two from an early age and to speak them correctly,  for example by putting the right accents.  That would be a good thing. 

However,  even in today’s Finland some people wonder how useful it is to limit the use of foreign terms… but the answer is always the same:  language is an entity with a life of its own.

In April in the Italian Trentino-Alto Adige region,  which is located close to the Dolomites,  an unfortunate event took place:  a bear (apparently a female,  therefore perhaps with cubs) attacked to death a runner who was running through the woods.  The solution to the problem proposed by the administrators was immediately to look for the animal and put it down.  Personally,  I don’t agree:  firstly the attack on a human being by a bear is a very rare event (many more people are killed every year while crossing pedestrian crossings:  in 2022 there were 307 in Italy);  furthermore we don’t know the dynamics of the fact:  perhaps the runner shouldn’t have been there and perhaps he should have made himself heard,  allowing the animal to get away… In any case,  killing is never the solution:  we cannot punish an animal just because he behaved as an animal.  So what should we do with husbands who commit femicide?  In Italy in 2022 about 120 women were killed.

Furthermore,  as I have already said in several posts,  a bear killing a man is a big news,  but a mosquito  killing by tropical fever should also:  in recent summers there have also been cases of West Nile in Italian Veneto,  due to the migration of mosquitoes towards the Italian climate which is starting to be more and more similar to certain tropical areas.

Unfortunately,  covid has slightly reared its head here in Finland:  there are 20 patients in intensive care.  Bad news for vulnerable people.

The war in Ukraine unfortunately shows no signs of coming to an end.  In Italy the pacifist movements are about to organize demonstrations for peace:  their intention is to seat the two contenders at a negotiating table.  The idea is good,  but I fear that the Italian pacifists are too optimistic:  perhaps they think that giving pieces of Ukrainian territory to Russia could end the invasion;  let’s be careful not to make the mistake that was made with Hitler:  we allowed him to take Poland,  thinking that he would stop and instead the next day he was already marching on Paris.  On the other hand,  if Putin invaded a part of Italy would we give it to him without a fight?

What amazes me is the absolute lack of reaction from the Russian people,  who continue to support their leaders and the war.  If dissidents are poisoned or sentenced to 25 years in prison just for speaking out against the war,  obviously ordinary people do not to protest.  But this is yet another reason why we cannot have any sympathy for Putin’s regime,  for how it is manipulating Russia.

A FUN FACT:   50 years ago the Motorbike world champion Jarno Saarinen won in France in the two 250 and 500 categories,  after italian pilot Giacomo Agostini’s crash.  Saarinen was an important figure in the world of motorcycles as he was the one who “invented” the technique of opening one leg outwards when cornering.  You can read more about Saarinen in my post:   https://traitaliaefinlandia.com/2017/09/04/un-campione-sfortunato/
