Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Agosto e’ stato proprio un mese estivo,  in Finlandia,  con tutte le caratteristiche della piena estate,  inclusa l’afa.  Abbiamo raggiunto i 30 gradi molti giorni e durante la notte le temperature si mantenevano attorno ai 20 – quand’e’ cosi’ qui le chiamano “notti tropicali”.

In realta’ ci ha fatto molto piacere questo mese piuttosto soleggiato,  in cui si e’ potuto trascorrere dei bei pomeriggi al mare,  sui laghi,  in bicicletta o semplicemente in giardino.  Per non parlare del bosco:  adesso i lamponi sono finiti,  ma i mirtilli sono nel pieno della maturazione e quest’anno ce ne sono proprio tantissimi.

In Italia sono arrivate le piogge,  ma purtroppo a causa del surriscaldamento dell’aria si sono rivelate essere piuttosto violenti rovesci,  temporali minacciosi con fitte grandinate e trombe d’aria.  In molte localita’ si stanno contando i danni.  Sembra proprio che il clima non ci perdoni la nostra noncuranza.

In Finlandia solitamente la fine di agosto e’ un periodo che potremmo definire autunnale,  infatti le scuole iniziano proprio attorno al 15 e piu’ o meno in questa data chiudono svariate strutture prettamente estive come camping,  baretti o choschi lungo le strade piu’ frequentate,  parchi acquatici,  parchi a tema per bambini.

Agosto e’ anche l’inizio della stagione dei funghi,  per chi e’ interessato.  Adesso e’ bello addentrarsi nei boschi e scoprire le sorprendenti “nascite” avvenute durante la notte:  un bel Porcino,  un gruppetto di gialli Finferli,  un Porcinello rosso,  una Russula… Adesso nei boschi non si sente altro rumore che lo stormire del vento fra gli alberi:  gli uccelli infatti non cantano piu’,  anzi,  molti se ne sono gia’ andati.

Le giornate si sono accorciate ancora visibilmente.  Adesso il buio e’ completo alle 22.00.

In questo periodo abbiamo avuto una poderosa aurora boreale che si e’ vista chiaramente fino a Helsinki e una superluna che galleggiava nel cielo come un’ appetitosa polenta.  Cosi’ almeno mi hanno detto:  io mi sono persa l’una e l’altra poiche’ dormivo saporitamente.  Non e’ colpa mia se hanno il brutto vizio di comparire a notte fonda! 😉

Agosto e’ anche il mese dei raccolti,  nel senso della mietitura.  Come ho detto in altri post,  qui si semina a maggio e si miete ad agosto,  per cui un campo puo’ dare un solo raccolto.  Quest’anno il raccolto e’ stato molto abbondante,  anche perche’ il tempo e’ stato caldo ma anche giustamente piovoso:  orzo,  segale,  avena,  frumento hanno illuminato il paesaggio con i loro riflessi dorati.

Il covid ci sta dando una grande tregua,  qui sembra proprio sparito:  nessuno ne parla piu’ e le mascherine sono un lontano ricordo.  Speriamo bene.  Quei pochi che ancora indossano le mascherine sono i fragili:  non meravigliamocene.

La situazione internazionale e’ un vero caos e anche la Finlandia e’ interessata dall’inflazione e dai rincari del costo dell’energia.  Purtroppo a monte non vi e’ solo la guerra,  ma la anche speculazione.

A proposito dell’affaire visti ai cittadini russi,  va detto che la Finlandia non e’ l’unico Paese che ancora concede visti ai cittadini russi (come ho letto su qualche giornale online italiano),  ma tutti i Paesi dell’area Schengen hanno facolta’ di farlo;  la Finlandia come altri Paesi ha invece ridotto il numero di visti concessi mensilmente e ha auspicato una regola comune da applicare in tutti i Paesi dell’Unione Europea.  Il discorso qui pero’ e’ particolarmente difficile,  in quanto vi sono cittadini russi sposati con finlandesi,  cittadini russi che hanno una seconda casa in Finlandia o parenti o lavoro,  per cui a maggior ragione va valutato con attenzione ogni singolo caso.

Vorrei spendere due parole anche per la “povera” primo ministro Sanna Marin che tutto il mondo social e non ha visto ballare scatenata ad una festa solleticando la pruderie di curiosi e benpensanti:  la signora Marin ha gestito comunque bene finora la pandemia e tutti i risvolti legati alla situazione geopolitica di quest’anno,  questo le va riconosciuto.  I finlandesi sono divisi come opinioni sul fatto e probabilmente questo le costera’ qualcosa alle prossime elezioni.  Per i miei lettori italiani (gia’ abituati a ben altro) lascio un interessante link da leggere ad un articolo del magazine La Rondine:  https://rondine.fi/2022/08/balla-sanna-balla-come-sai/

In Italia si stanno avvicinando le elezioni politiche,  dopo che il precedente governo e’ stato fatto cadere,  e la campagna elettorare delle varie forze politiche e’ davvero un teatrino di promesse.  Fra le varie riforme impossibili,  pensioni facili,  tasse ridottissime,  uno dei temi meno toccati mi sembra sia proprio  la salvaguardia dell’ambiente.  Purtroppo.

A Month in my Photos.  

August was just a summer month, in Finland,  with all the characteristics of the high season,  including the humidity.  We hit 30 degrees C many days and during the night the temperatures were around 20 – they call them “tropical nights” here.

To tell the truth,  we were very pleased with this rather sunny month,  in which we were able to spend beautiful afternoons by the sea,  on the lakes,  by bicycle or simply in the garden.  Not to mention the forest:  now the raspberry season is over,  but the blueberries are in full ripeness and they are numerous.

In Italy it rained at last,  but unfortunately due to the air overheating they turned out to be quite violent showers,  threatening thunderstorms with dense hailstorms and tornadoes.  Damages are being counted in many places.  It seems that the climate does not forgive us our carelessness.

In Finland usually the end of August is usually the start of autumn,  in fact schools start around the 15th and more or less on this date various summer structures close down such as campsites,  bars or kiosks along the busiest streets,  ice-cream kiosks,  water parks,  theme parks for children.

August is also the beginning of the mushroom season,  for those interested.  Now it’s nice to walk into the woods and discover the surprising “births” that took place during the night:  a beautiful Porcino,  a group of yellow Chanterelles,  a red Foxy bolete,  a Russula …  Now in the woodslands you can hear no other noise than the rustling of the wind in the trees as birds no longer sing,  on the contrary,  many have already gone.

The days have shortened again visibly.  Darkness is now complete at 10pm.

In August we had a mighty northern lights that were clearly seen as far as Helsinki and a super moon that floated in the sky like an appetizing polenta.  So at least they told me:  I lost both of them because I was sleeping soundly.  It’s not my fault that they have the bad habit of showing up late at night! 😉

August is also the harvest month.  As I said in other posts,  here the crops are sown in May and reaped in August,  so a single field can only produce one crop.  This year the harvest was very abundant,  also because the weather was hot but also moderately rainy:  barley,  rye,  oats,  wheat have so far illuminated the landscape with their golden reflections.

Covid is giving us a break,  here it seems to have disappeared:  no one talks about it anymore and the masks are a distant memory.  Let’s hope for good.  The ones who still wear masks are the vulnerable  ones:  let’s not be surprised.

The international situation is a real chaos and Finland is also affected by inflation and rising energy costs.  Unfortunately,  behind all there is not only war,  but also speculation.

Regarding the visa affair for Russian citizens,  it must be said that Finland is not the only country that still grants visas to Russian citizens (as I read in some Italian online newspapers),  but all the Schengen area countries have the right to do it;  Finland,  as well as other countries,  has instead reduced the number of visas granted monthly and has called for a common rule to be applied in all countries of the European Union.  The matter here,  however,  is particularly difficult,  as there are Russian citizens married to Finns,  Russian citizens who have a second home in Finland or relatives or work,  therefore each individual case must be carefully evaluated.

I would like to say a few words for the “poor” Prime Minister Sanna Marin whom the whole social-media  world could admire while dancing wildly at a party,  tickling the prudery of busybodies and conformists:  Mrs. Marin has managed the pandemic and all the implications linked to the geopolitical situation well so far,  this must be recognized.  The Finns’opinions are divided about the fact and this will probably cost her something in the next elections.  For my Italian readers (accustomed to far more) I leave an interesting link to peruse (Google translator works anyway):  https://rondine.fi/2022/08/balla-sanna-balla-come-sai/

Political elections are approaching in Italy,  after the previous government was overthrown,  and the electoral campaign sounds like a theater of promises.  Among the various impossible reforms promised,  easy pensions,  reduced taxation…  one of the least mentioned issues seems to me to be the protection of the environment.  Unfortunately.
