Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto:

Anche il mese di Luglio qui in Finlandia e’ stato strabiliante.  Per chi ama l’estate,  certamente il momento giusto per visitare questo Paese.  Abbiamo avuto infatti temperature mediterranee di giorno,  ma generalmente notti fresche abbastanza da non guastarci la qualita’ del sonno.  Veramente il lungo periodo caldo che ci ha accompagnato da fine maggio ha messo a dura prova l’agricoltura e le foreste:  la siccita’ e’ stata notevole e se nei campi le colture hanno sofferto la sete,  nei boschi non e’ andata meglio.  Le piantine di mirtilli hanno lasciato cadere qualche frutto e gli animali selvatici devono aver fatto tanta strada per trovare da bere…

In qualche zona d’Italia,  allagamenti e bombe d’acqua hanno fatto danni.  Le immagini giunte dall’Europa centrale sono tristi ed emblematiche della potenza del cambiamento climatico.

La prima parte di questo 2021 ha messo l’Italia positivamente sulla ribalta internazionale:  dopo la vittoria musicale al European Song Contest,  sono seguite la vittoria calcistica ai Campionati europei e il fatto che un nostro tennista sia arrivato in finale a Wimbedon.  Accompagnate da buone prospettive di ripresa economica queste sono senz’altro buone notizie,  mi augurerei che il nostro Paese andasse sui giornali per questi motivi solamente…

A proposito di capionati europei:  il nostro calciatore Leonardo Spinazzola,  infortunatosi in una partita,  e’ stato operato a Turku,  in un centro ortopedico d’eccellenza frequentato dalle piu’ blasonate squadre di calcio.  Anche Beckham qualche anno fa venne operato qui,  con relativo assedio di fans al suo arrivo.

Purtroppo il rovescio della medaglia e’ sempre li’,  non si fa attendere:  i festeggiamenti per le suddette vittorie e le riaperture hanno portato ad una recrudescenza del contagio.  (Sara’ che personalmente sono immune al divismo…ma proprio non capisco perche’ si debba andare a far baccano per strada per il calcio!  Mi metto sempre nei panni delle persone malate o anziane che vengono disturbate…) Comunque lo fanno anche i finnici quando la Nazionale vince il campionato di Ice Hockey:  tutto il mondo e’ paese.

Anche in Finlandia il contagio e’ risalito;  il governo finlandese parla gia’ di quarta ondata e dopo le riaperture di maggio e’ pronto a richiudere qualcosa.  Al momento l’incidenza e’ di 115 casi ogni 100mila abitanti,  ma l’ospedalizzazione e’ limitata (65+7) e i decessi sono a 984 da marzo 2020.

CURIOSITA’:  al mio ritorno in Finlandia,  mi e’ stato chiesto il Green Pass per entrare nella saletta vip dell’aeroporto di Francoforte e io sono stata ben felice di averlo.  Di piu’:  ero molto felice che anche tutte le persone attorno a me lo avessero.  Vorrei unire la mia voce agli scienziati che invitano a vaccinarsi:  fatelo anche per i vostri cari!  Questo virus e’ ingannevole:  magari voi non vi ammalate,  ma non sapete a chi lo potete trasmettere e con quali conseguenze!  Siete indecisi perche’ temete gli effetti del vaccino alla lunga distanza?  E non temete gli effetti del virus alla lunga distanza?  Temete quello che vi iniettano?  Che cosa dovrebbero dire gli ammalati che devono iniettarsi le chemio?

Qui in Finlandia il Green Pass non e’ ancora richiesto perche’ non siamo in emergenza.

Contraddizione italiana:  le destre sono restie a consigliare il vaccino,  mentre Confindustria ha buttato li’ che lo potrebbe imporre ai lavoratori in generale… 🙂

Questa parte di estate e’ stata caratterizzata dalla presenza massiccia di farfalle:  che bello vederne cosi’ tante,  specie a giugno.  Adesso invece,  a luglio,  e’ il momento delle libellule,  anche loro graziosissime e soprattutto innocue.  Le zanzare al contrario hanno ricevuto una sonora batosta a causa del periodo siccitoso.

Le giornate hanno iniziato un lento accorciarsi,  ma per il momento non si nota molto.

Si nota invece il fatto che nessun uccellino canta piu’.  La stagione dei concerti e’ proprio la primavera.  Adesso tutti hanno i piccoli da addestrare al volo e qualche coppia sta gia’ accudendo la seconda covata,  forse.  Ad esempio i Colombacci o i Merli.  La sera quando ci sediamo fuori a prendere il fresco,  non ci sono piu’ nemmeno gli usignoli…

Questo luglio abbiamo fatto un notevole raccolto di fragole nel nostro giardino e ho gia’ preparato la prima decina di vasetti di marmellata.

A Month in my Photos.

Even the month of July here in Finland was amazing.  For those who love summer,  certainly the right time to visit this country.  In fact we had Mediterranean temperatures during the day,  but nights that were cool enough not to spoil our sleep.  Indeed,  the long hot period that has accompanied us since the end of May has put a strain on agriculture and forests:  the drought was considerable and if the crops in the fields suffered,  in the woods it did not go better.  Blueberries have dropped some fruits and wild animals must have had a hard time to find drinking water …

In some areas of Italy,  floods and water bombs have caused serious damage.  The images from central Europe are sad and emblematic of the power of climate change.

The first part of this year has positively put Italy on the international limelight:  after the musical victory at the European Song Contest,  the football victory at the European Championships and the fact that one of our tennis players reached the final in Wimbledon followed.  Accompanied by good prospects of economic recovery,  this is certainly good news.  I would be happy if our country hit the newspapers for these reasons only …

Speaking of European champions:  our soccer player Leonardo Spinazzola,  injured in a match,  was operated in Turku,  in an orthopedic center of excellence frequented by the most famous football teams.  Beckham was also operated here a few years ago,  with a siege of fans upon his arrival.

Unfortunately the reverse of the coin is always there,  it is not long in coming:  the celebrations for the aforementioned victories and the re-opening of activities have led to a resurgence of the contagion.  (Personally I am immune to hero-worship,  so I do not understand why people must clamor in the streets just for soccer!  I can imagine what a nuisance it must be to ill or elderly people…)  However,  Finn supporters behave in the same crazy way when the National team wins the Ice Hockey championship:  it is the same the world over.

The Finnish government is already talking about a fourth covid wave and after the reopening in May it is ready to close something,  as cases are increasing here too.  In this moment we have 115 cases per 100,000 inhabitants,  but few people in hospital (65+7) and the number of dead people is 984 since March 2020.

A FACT:  upon my return to Finland,  I was asked for the Vaccine Certification to enter the VIP lounge at Frankfurt airport and I was very happy to have it.  More than that:  I was very happy that all the people around me had it.   I would like to join the scientists who call for vaccinations:  do it for your loved ones too!  This virus is deceptive:  maybe you don’t get sick,  but you don’t know who you can bring it to and with what consequences!  Are you afraid of the vaccination effects in the long run?  Aren’t you afraid of the effects of the virus in the long run?  Are you afraid of what is inside the vaccine?  What about people who must have chemotherapy?

Here in Finland Certification is not requested yet as we are not in emergency.

This part of summer was characterized by the massive presence of butterflies:  how nice to see so many,  especially in June.  Now in July,  more dragonflies flew,  also very pretty and above all harmless.  The mosquitoes,  on the other hand,  are reduced due to the dry period.

Days have started getting shorter,  but it is hardly recognizable for the moment.

What is instead fully recognizable is the lack of birds’ singing.  Nature is now silent.  The season for concerts is spring,  indeed!  Now birds are engaged in teaching their young ones to fly or nursing their second brood.  Blackbirds and Wood pigeons do that,  for instance.  In the evening not even Nightingales sing any longer…

This July we had a conspicuous strawberry harvest in our veg yard,  so I made already ten cans of jam.
