Buona visione!
Valse triste.
Today I would like to share with you, dear readers, an interesting post from the blog Il Cavallo di Brunilde, presenting a meaningful animation by Italian author Bruno Bozzetto with the soundtrack of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius. The theme of the cartoon is memory and memories: a cat roams around the remains of an old house and remembers happy by-gone times.
Jean Sibelius (1865-1957) is recognized as the greatest classical composer in Finland. He is a representative of the late Romantic period and his music is associated with the struggle for independence which brought Finland to gain freedom from the Russian domination in the 1940’s. The track we are going to enjoy in this animation is called Valse triste, one of his most famous compositions.
Bruno Bozzetto (Milan 1938), is a great cartoon animator, with a long and rich career. The cartoon I am sharing today is a part of his film Allegro non troppo, released in 1976. This film is a collection of six classical music pieces with six different animations: something like Walt Disney’s Fantasia.
Enjoy it!

Oh, what a magnificent video! So sad, so sad! That little skinny cat almost made me cry, when it remembered all those houses filled with life, people, food and comfort.

The ending caught me off-guard. Poor kitty. Love the way she(?) did the stretching, though. 🙂

I believe I remember what “trieste” means from my high school days, and that kitty truly doesn’t look “trieste” to me – quite a lovely kitty.

The intense eyes of the kitty is so cute here! Am so happy for the Fins to have their own country back under its own rule. From what I have seen from the Finnish blogs, they have different personalities than the Russians. They are artistic i and progressive in whatever they do, but with restraint, and without the bombastic edge of the Russian population. Also, they are very open to other nations (and am glad you are able to choose to be this way) Thanks for sharing this subject with All Seasons! Have a super fruitful week, Jesh

Oh yes, the Finns are total Scandinavian – nothing to do with the exuberant Russian temper. Thanks for your appreciation. Have a great week to you too!
