Dalla mia clausura.

Qualche scatto direttamente dal mio giardino veronese durante la clausura.  Quando sono a Verona,  abito in una vecchia casa con un piccolo giardino di proprietà ed un cortile – chiuso e tutto mio – in cui posso andare a fare un pò di movimento tutti i giorni.   Naturalmente tengo sempre gli occhi aperti sulla (poca) natura che mi circonda.  Qui l’ unico panorama che vedo sono i grandi pini del parco retrostante con qualche bel volatile che vi si posa di tanto in tanto:  ad esempio questo gheppio occhiuto e questa gazza bluastra.

Gli uccellini più piccoli cantano a squarciagola per trovare compagnia e la colonna sonora non manca…

Nel vicinato ci sono giardini più belli del mio:  qualcuno può ostentare un alberello di peonie veramente meraviglioso…

La coppia di merli che nidifica solitamente fra i rami del mio gigantesco gelsomino ha già covato la prima nidiata di piccoli:  all’inizio della clausura vedevo il merlo maschio che portava qualche insetto alla consorte,  invece ora hanno già abbandonato tutti il nido!  Ecco qui uno dei merlotti appena sceso dal nido (vedete che è ancora senza coda?)  I genitori se lo porteranno via e a poco a poco gli insegneranno a volare.

A proposito di volare:  ogni giorni vedo qualche aereo che solca il cielo,  naturalmente solo in sorvolo perchè la maggior parte delle attività aeroportuali è ferma,  a livello locale.  Oltre ad essere grata alle categorie di lavoratori che ci stanno salvando la vita in questo periodo oscuro (non ultimi gli operatori telefonici ed internet...)  mando un pensiero ai miei ex-colleghi dell’Aeroporto Catullo di Verona e a tutti gli operatori di terra e naviganti di tutti gli scali e compagnie aeree del mondo:  spero che nessuno di voi perda il posto di lavoro e che riprendiate quanto prima la solita attività,  anche frenetica. 

Spero di poter tornare anch’io a volare presto,  perchè la voglia di volare non mi è mai passata e andare in aeroporto con la valigia è una delle sensazioni più piacevoli che conosco!

Le mie ore sono piene anche di musica e varie letture,  per esempio:

From my Seclusion.      

Today I’ll share with you a few shots taken during the compulsory lockdown.  When I am in Verona,  I live in an old house with a small garden and a courtyard – fenced and only mine – where I can go for short strolls daily.  Of course I always keep eyes open to the (little) portion of nature:  the only view from here are the three big pines in the park beyond my wall;  from time to time birds stop on their branches and I take pictures of them or listen to their singing.  In these days a large-eyed Kestrel and a bluish Magpie were there.  

My neighbours have better gardens than I and one of them can boast lovely peonies…

Every spring a couple of Blackbirds build their nest among the branches of my huge jasmin,  of course also this year.  At the beginning of the seclusion I saw the male carry worms to his partner,  now they have already quit the nest with their offsprings!  One day I saw one of the new born just on the grass,  ready to be taken away by his mom (as you can see in my shot he does not have a tail,  yet)  to be taught how to fly.

Of course I see airplanes in the sky too.  They must be only overflying as every activity is closed,  locally.  I therefore seize the opportunity to give a special thought to all workers who are saving our lives in this delicate moment,  (not to be forgotten:  telephone and internet operators…).  In particular I’d like to encourage my former colleagues of the Verona Airport and more…  all ground staff of all aerodromes worldwide and airmen of all airline companies:  may none of you lose his/her workplace and may you go back to your normal activity – even though a bit frantic sometimes,  as I know. 

I hope I can soon resume my flying too,  because I like flying and going to the airport with a suitcase is one of the sweetest sensations I can feel.

Of course I like reading as well in all this free time,  for instance:  “A collection of short stories” by Anton Chekhov;  a collection of short stories by Mauro Corona,  Italian rock climber and artist;  a booklet about physics by Italian scientist Carlo Rovelli;  “Measuring the World” by Daniel Kehlmann,  the story of Alexander von Humboldt and his discoveries.

  3. Beautiful photos & cute birds. At the moment I were in Rome, if the coronavirus did not happen… You are lucky having summer there – it is snowing in the southern Finland! Take care & stay well.

  49. A good friend of mine in Powell River BC has a cafe and she calls it Magpie’s Diner. I think it comes from a nickname with a combination of her name Margaret and her outgoing personality. I can hardly wait to go back there for breakfast. She makes the very best Eggs Benedict! – Margy
