Ad ottobre,  una famigliola di cigni canori sta facendo un picnic autunnale in un campo prima di migrare verso latitudini piu’ tiepide:  si riconoscono chiaramente due adulti bianchi e cinque nuovi nati ancora col piumaggio grigio.  I cigni non si spostano di molto dalla Finlandia in inverno:  stazionano nelle zone del Baltico dove l’acqua non ghiaccia e a inizio Marzo fanno ritorno qui.

In questo periodo dell’anno tutti gli altri uccelli migratori se ne sono gia’ andati,  rimane appunto solo qualche cigno.

Picnic in Autumn.    

Mid-October:  a pretty family of Whooper swans is enjoying the last picnic in a field before migrating;  you can recognize two adults in white plumage and five newly born still in grey.  Swans do not go too far from Finland in winter:  they just linger in those ice-free areas of the Baltic where they can find food and then come back in early spring.

In this moment of the year all other migratory birds have gone,  just some swans are still here.

  7. Grazie mia cara. Tornerò, stai sicura. Adoro la natura. Dirò che pure ti invidio un po’ . Vivere in posti dallo spazio immenso è senz’ altro affascinante. Mio figlio ha visitato ben 25 nazioni .   38. Swans, Canada Geese and Snow Geese migrate to the Skagit Valley near where we have a place in Bellingham. Every time we drive down to Seattle during the winter we watch for them in the fields. Some farmers are paid to leave seed crops in their fields to feed them during the cold months. – Margy
