Tra Italia e Finlandia

Oggi,  21 giugno,  cade il solstizio d’estate e in Scandinavia questo weekend si fa festa!

La ricorrenza corrisponde un po’ al ferragosto italiano:  solo che da noi ferragosto chiude la stagione,  mentre in Finlandia da adesso in poi iniziano ufficialmente le vacanze!

La gran parte dei finlandesi trascorrera’ questi tre giorni rilassandosi nella verde natura:  nelle seconde case in riva ai laghi,  con la famiglia o pochi amici,  con qualche giro in barca,  con la sauna e poi qualche tuffo,  con i barbecue e birra a fiumi.  Infatti ieri pomeriggio e’ iniziato il traffico in uscita dalle citta’ e se capitate a Helsinki adesso vi chiederete dove sono tutti quanti…

Midsummer in finnico si chiama:  Juhannus e si festeggia sempre nel weekend del 21 giugno.  Quest’anno il tempo e’ previsto bello,  ma i finnici faranno festa con qualsiasi tempo.  😉

Happy Midsummer! 

Today is the 21st of June,  the summer solstice and in all Scandinavia they celebrate Midsummer! 

This weekend most people are off from work:  many leave the towns and move to their country cottages by the lakes with family or closest friends.  Finns like to spend time there:  relaxing in the green nature,  sporting,  boating,  swimming after sauna,  grilling and beer flowing in torrents.  As a matter of fact,  if you happen to be in Helsinki now you will wonder where all the people are…

Midsummer also marks the official start of the summer holiday season.

Midsummer in Finnish is called:  Juhannus and it it always held on the weekend closest to June 21st.   This year weather seems to be good,  but Finns will celebrate in any weather.  😉

Just for my Italian readers,  the link to an article from “La Rondine” online review.  In this article the writer encourages spending holidays in Finland as the climate is wonderful,  for those who do not like hot weather;  he also comments on how Lapland is considered a kind of archetypal destination,  for the people who come from Mediterranean countries.  Dear friends all,  come to visit the very north of Europe once:  it is worth while!
