Life in the Country.
In the Po Valley countryside the resting season is quite short, even if it is still winter: January is the due time for pruning vines; March is already the time for pruning peach trees, much cultivated in this area. In my shots today: the hills where the town of Custoza is located, with the crest of Mount Baldo in the background.
Custoza and its surrounding area are famous for the production of a light and medium-dry white wine named: Bianco di Custoza. It is a local DOC wine which is actually a blend of three vine varieties: Trebbiano Toscano, Garganega and Trebbianello. Its alcohol level is 10-11 % by volume.
The title of this post is taken from a selection of short stories by Sicilian writer Giovanni Verga, published in 1880.
