Wishing you all a happy Christmas time: may your days be merry and bright!
I would like to wish everybody a peaceful time with the shot of this Baby Jesus from my own crib. It is a very old figurine, I have had it since my childhood and I am fond of it, even though it is partly damaged. In Italy we put up the crib in our homes, whereas in Finland the Christmas tree is traditional.
Chritmas time in Finland begins on December 24th at midday; in that moment all activities stop and people just takes time to celebrate at home with family and relatives. They usually have Christmas dinner and Joulusauna: Christmas sauna. In the early afternoons religious services are held and then it is a widespread habit to visit and light up a candle for relatives who have passed away. The sense of the few Christmas days for mostly Finnish people is to stop, pause, stay home, relax, enjoy the family and read or take it easy. The rush is over – whatever people’s religious belief may be.
Joulurauhaa kaikille!

Such a precious treasure from childhood that figurine.
Indeed, Christmas begins when Turku declares Christmas Peace. Although I spent my childhood and youth in Turku, I’ve never seen that declaration live. My family used to sleep till almost noon on Christmas Eve and watched that event on TV 😀
And I still watch it every Christmas, it’s almost the only tradition during holidays.
Still we sleep almost till noon 😀 But that’s because we use to look at so many movies during Christmas and go to sleep very, very late.
I wish you a Merry, merry Christmas ❤

We still watch Christmas Peace on TV every year. Also now from Italy via computer. We watch Lumiukko too, with the same enthusiasm!
