Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

A parte un paio di leggere spolveratine di neve a meta’ mese,  dicembre e’ stato molto calmo e caldo,  qui nella Finlandia meridionale.  Avevamo temperature sopra lo zero e cieli nuvolosi come a novembre.  A fine mese,  invece,  la discesa di aria polare ha cambiato la situazione:  dopo Natale si sono avvicendate tempeste di vento,  brinate e nevicate,  sia pur non copiose,  catapultandoci nel cuore dell’inverno.  Le temperature sono scese abbondantemente sotto lo zero e adesso tutto e’ bianco.

La tempesta Hannes,  che ha avuto luogo sabato 27 e domenica 28,  ha colpito in gran parte la costa ovest del Paese e le isole Åland,  lasciando senza elettricita’ numerose famiglie.  Anche noi siamo rimasti senza elettricita’ per circa 20 ore e abbiamo dovuto servirci del nostro generatore.  La causa sono gli alberi che cadono sulle linee elettriche.  Come ho gia’ detto,  la Finlandia sta interrando tutte le linee elettriche possibili,  per evitare questi inconvenienti,  ma immaginate quale sforzo sia e quanto tempo ci voglia per servire tutto il territorio!  Comunque vorrei rassicurare tutti che le citta’,  i paesi e le immediate periferie sono immuni da questo tipo di inconvenienti:  chi abita in centro non si e’ nemmeno accorto di nulla.  Chi abita invece tra campi e boschi come noi…se n’e’ accorto. 😉

In Italia il tempo e’ stato mite e soleggiato durante le prima meta’ del mese,  ma anche la’ adesso il freddo e’ aumentato,  a causa della discesa di aria polare.

Dicembre e’ uno dei mesi piu’ brevi dell’anno,  pur avendo 31 giorni,  poiche’ passa sempre in un soffio.  Almeno,  questa e’ la mia impressione.  Si hanno sempre tante cose da pianificare,  da preparare,  amici da incontrare,  eventi a cui partecipare…  Anche noi siamo stati attivissimi,  questo dicembre,  poiche’ l’atmosfera natalizia ci piace vergognosamente tanto!  Non ci siamo fatti mancare concerti,  mostre,  incontri,  mercatini,  manifestazioni,  visite… perche’ “la vita e’ adesso”,  come dice il saggio Claudio Baglioni.

Fra le notizie del mese:  la citta’ finlandese di Oulu,  sara’ capitale europea della cultura per l’anno 2026  assieme a Trenčín,  in Slovacchia.

Il giorno 5 novembre 2025 si e’ registrata la temperatura record di 12 gradi C nella citta’ di Rauma.

Sono state censite 46,7 milioni di coppie di volatili che nidificano in Finlandia.

Negli anni 2020-25 il musicista e direttore d’orchestra finlandese Esa-Pekka Salonen e’ stato direttore artistico della Los Angeles Philarmonic.

Quest’anno in Giappone si tiene una mostra importante sul designer finlandese Tapio Wirkkala.  Il titolo della mostra e’:  “Lo scultore dell’Ultima Thule”.

Infine,  vi voglio raccontare che il 31 dicembre di primo mattino,  quindi con buio pesto,  l’ennesima nave partita da San Pietroburgo con un carico di merce sotto sanzioni,  ha divelto un cavo di telecomunicazioni che corre tra Finlandia ed Estonia.  Il cavo e’ di propieta’ della compagnia telefonica finlandese Elisa.  Ma gli e’ andata male:  un elicottero della Guardia Costiera finlandese nel suo giro di pattugliamento ha visto tutto,  percio’ la nave e’ stata bloccata,  fatta entrare in porto e sequestrata;  due uomini sono stati arrestati.  Naturalmente la polizia finlandese e’ cauta,  dicono che e’ troppo presto per puntare il dito contro chicchessia.

Io pero’ sono buona e gentile e voglio dare ai grandi del mondo anche un premio:  il premio di comico dell’anno,  perche’ lo meritano in parecchi.  Il piu’ irresistibile pero’ e’ Putin,  che ultimamente ha inanellato una serie di battute una piu’ comica dell’altra.  La prima,  durante la visita in India,  in occasione della visita sulla tomba di Gandhi,  ha detto che “La Russia sostiene tutti gli ideali del Mahatma”.  La seconda:  “Il Donbass e’ nostro:  e’ un fatto storico”.   La terza:  “Siamo pronti a sottoscrivere che non attaccheremo mai la Nato”.  Se non fosse tragico,  sarebbe di una comicita’ irresisitibile!

Con tutta l’amarezza che deriva dalla situazione attuale,  sperando che comunque migliori,  non arrendendosi mai,  auguro a voi tutti un Gennaio formidabile e ancora Buon Anno!

A Month in my Photos.

Aside from a couple of light dustings of snow in the middle of the month,  December was very calm and warm here in southern Finland.  We had temperatures above freezing and cloudy skies like in November.  At the end of the month,  however,  a cold wave changed the situation:  after Christmas,  windstorms,  frost,  and snowfall,  albeit not heavy,  threw us into the heart of winter.  Temperatures dropped well below freezing,  and now everything is white.

Storm Hannes,  which struck on Saturday the 27th and Sunday the 28th,  largely affected the west coast of the country and the Åland Islands,  leaving numerous families without power.  We too were without power for about 20 hours and had to rely on our generator.  The cause was trees falling on power lines.  As I mentioned,  Finland is burying all its power lines to avoid these inconveniences,  but imagine how much effort and time it would take to service the entire country!  However,  I would like to reassure everyone:  cities,  towns and the immediate suburbs are immune from this type of disruptions;  the people who live downtown haven’t even noticed anything.  Those who live among fields and woodlands like we…have noticed. 😉

In Italy the weather was mild and sunny during the first half of the month,  but now it’s even colder there,  due to the descent of polar air.

December is one of the shortest months of the year, despite having 31 days,  because it always flies by.  At least,  that’s my impression.  There’s always so much to plan,  prepare,  friends to meet,  events to attend… We’ve also been very active this December,  because we love the Christmas atmosphere so much!  We’ve had plenty of concerts,  exhibitions,  meetings,  markets,  events, visits… because “life is now,”  as the wise Italian singer Claudio Baglioni says.

Among the news of the month:  the Finnish city of Oulu will be the European Capital of Culture for 2026,  along with Trenčín, Slovakia.

On November 5,  2025,  a record-breaking temperature of 12 degrees C was recorded in the city of Rauma.

There are 46.7 million recorded breeding pairs of birds in Finland.

From 2020 to 2025,  Finnish musician and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen was creative director designate of the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

This year,  a major exhibition on Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala is being held in Japan.  The title of the exhibition is “The Sculptor of Ultima Thule.”

Finally, I want to tell you that on December 31st, early in the morning, in pitch darkness, yet another ship leaving St. Petersburg with a cargo of sanctioned goods tore up a telecommunications cable running between Finland and Estonia. The cable is owned by the Finnish telephone company Elisa. But it went badly: a Finnish Coast Guard helicopter on its patrol saw everything, so the ship was stopped, forced into port, and seized; two men were arrested. Naturally, the Finnish police are cautious; they say it’s too early to point the finger at anyon

But I’m kind and gentle,  and I even want to give the big boys who rule the world an award:  the Comedian of the Year award,  because they all deserve it.  The most irresistible is anyway Putin,  as he’s recently come up with a series of jokes,  each one funnier than the last.  The first:  during his visit to India,  on the occasion of his visit to Gandhi’s mausoleum,  he declared  that “Russia supports all of Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals.”  The second:  “Donbass is ours:  it’s a historic fact.”  The third:  “We are ready to sign that we will never attack NATO.”  If it weren’t tragic,  it would be irresistibly comical!
