Lo Svasso maggiore (Podiceps cristatus) è un uccello acquatico comune nelle acque del lago di Garda,  come del resto negli specchi d’acqua di tutto il continente europeo,  Scandinavia compresa e di praticamente tutti i continenti.  Si nutre di pesci,  gamberetti e insetti d’acqua che cattura con lunghe immersioni.

E’ molto divertente vederlo immergersi e poi,  dopo un tempo abbastanza lungo,  indovinare dove riemergerà…solitamente molto distante da dove si è immerso!

Great crested Grebe on the go.       

The Great crested Grebe (Podiceps cristatus) is a very widespread waterbird:  you can see it slide along the water of lake Garda as well as many lakes all around the world,  including Scandinavia.   It is an excellent diver and pursues its preys underwater for a long time:  it is particularly funny to watch it dive and then guess where it will come out,  after a considerably long time.  Its favourite food is fish,  crustaceans or water insects.
