Tra Italia e Finlandia

Passeggiando per le vie di Ljubljana,  la bella capitale slovena,  ci si accorge che anche qui lo stile Liberty,  o Art Nouveau,  e’ stato molto seguito a inizio secolo XX.

Il Liberty e’ caratterizzato da decori ispirati ai fiori e alla natura.  In Italia ancor piu’ e’ stato sempre pieno anche di reminiscenze barocche.  La bellezza di questo stile aggiunge leggerezza all’architettura,  in quanto spesso aggiunge decori dorati,  o di maioliche,  o ferro battuto alle facciate ed agli interni degli edifici.

Il Liberty raggiunse il suo picco proprio nel 1900.  In occasione dell’Expo di Parigi del 1900 furono anche presentati i lavori di artisti come Alphonse Mucha e Rene’ Lalique.

In queste foto un dettaglio del Grand Hotel Union,  inaugurato nel 1905 e una delle sue porte d’entrata.

Spesso i decori Liberty vanno cercati sotto i cornicioni,  come nel caso di questo bel palazzo adibito a centro commerciale:

Infine,  i due palazzi piu’ rappresentativi di questo stile,  il primo e’ la Hauptmann House,  con dettagli verdi,  rossi e blu:

Il secondo e’ la sede della Banca di Credito Cooperativo,  che spicca su tutti per l’incredibile colore rosso:

Purtroppo in occasione della nostra visita il tempo e’ stato inclemente e la luce non ha reso giustizia a queste architetture splendide.  Spero comunque di avervi portato qualcosa di bello.

Art Nouveau in Ljubljana.

Strolling through the streets of Ljubljana,  the beautiful Slovenian capital,  you realize that the Liberty,  or Art Nouveau,  style was also very popular here at the beginning of the 20th century.  Art Nouveau is characterized by decorations inspired by flowers and nature.  In Italy,  it has always been even more reminiscent of Baroque.  The beauty of this style adds lightness to architecture,  as it often adds gilded,  majolica,  or wrought iron decorations to the facades and interiors of buildings.

Art Nouveau reached its peak in 1900.  In fact,  the works of artists such as Alphonse Mucha and René Lalique were presented at the 1900 Paris Expo.

In the following photos a detail of the Grand Hotel Union,  inaugurated in 1905 and one of its glass doors.

Liberty decorations are often found under the cornices,  as in the case of the beautiful building in the next shot,  used as a shopping centre.

Finally,  two of the most representative buildings of this style,  the first is the Hauptmann House, with green,  red and blue details;  the second is the Cooperative Bank Building which stands out above all for its incredible red color.

Unfortunately,  the weather was awful during our visit,  and the light didn’t do justice to these splendid architectures.  I hope,  however,  that I brought you something beautiful.
