Tra Italia e Finlandia

Un mese nelle mie foto.

Agosto e’ stato bellissimo nella prima parte,  praticamente una continuazione di luglio,  con giornate soleggiate e temperature piacevoli.  Nella seconda parte invece ci ha deluso poiche’ ha fatto arrivare i primi segnali d’autunno anzitempo:  le temperature sono scese al di sotto delle medie e le piogge sono state temporalesche con vento spesso sostenuto.

In Italia agosto e’ stato davvero caldissimo:  proprio il picco dell’estate.

Adesso in Finlandia le giornate si sono accorciate moltissimo:  il buio sopraggiunge prima delle 22.00 ed e’ una bella differenza da Midsummer.  I boschi sono silenziosi:  non ci sono piu’ i canti degli uccellini,  si sente solo lo stormir delle fronde.  Alcuni uccelli sono gia’ partiti,  come il Chiurlo e sicuramente anche la Beccaccia,  che non vedo piu’ attraversare il cielo serotino col suo buffo richiamo.

Adesso e’ stagione di raccolta di bacche e funghi.  I boschi sono letteralmente pieni di mirtilli (neri e rossi) e di finferli in particolare:  sembrano fiori gialli nel sottobosco!  I lamponi invece sono finiti:  sono frutti di luglio.  Noi abbiamo raccolto tanto di tutto e fatto parecchie marmellate.

Le scuole sono gia’ iniziate tutte.  Ogni regione ha il proprio calendario:  a Somero sono iniziate il 7 agosto.  I ragazzi erano in vacanza dal 31 maggio.  La prossima settimana di vacanza sara’ la terza di ottobre.

Fra le notizie del mese:  un sondaggio ha rivelato che piu’ della meta’ della popolazione finlandese e’ disposta a farsi curare da un medico straniero anche se non parla ancora bene il finlandese  o se lo sta ancora studiando.

La citta’ di Helsinki ha raggiunto l’obiettivo “zero morti in strada”.  A cominciare da luglio 2024 a tutt’oggi nessun incidente mortale e’ avvenuto sulle strade cittadine.  Questo risultato e’ stato agevolato dall’aver introdotto il limite di velocita’ di 30km orari in certe zone,  dall’aver potenziato i controlli con autovelox e dall’aver curato sia il trasporto pubblico che lo scorrimento nelle piste ciclabili e pedonali.

Fra le notizie sportive,  si e’ recentemente svolto nelle citta’ di Tampere e di Nokia il primo campionato mondiale di frisbee-golf,  sport parecchio praticato qui in Finlandia.  Si tratta di fare un percorso su prato lanciando frisbee da una postazione all’altra.  Le medaglie se le sono divise maggiormente statunitensi e finlandesi.  Si e’ svolto anche il “Rally dei 1000 laghi”,  la prova ambientata in Finlandia del campionato mondiale rally.  Il vincitore di quest’anno e’ stato il campione di casa:  Kalle Rovanperä.

Una notizia curiosa che ci arriva dalla Lapponia svedese:  nella citta’ di Kiiruna,  da noi visitata nel 1996,  le miniere che si trovano su quel ricco territorio si stavano allargando talmente che iniziano a mettere in pericolo la stabilita’ della locale chiesa.  Cosi’ gli ingegneri,  dopo studi durati una decina d’anni,  hanno deciso di spostarla letteralmente.  Le case e gli edifici lignei in genere non hanno fondamenta,  per cui e’ stata caricata su appositi carrelli e spostata tutta intera.

Fra le notizie piu’ dolorose c’e’ quella che le guerre e le stragi di civili continuano.  Impressionante vedere la condizione della popolazione di Gaza,  ma anche sapere che gli ostaggi israeliani ancora vivi sono tuttora nelle mani dei terroristi,  dopo tutto questo tempo.

Ancora piu’ impressionanate e’ la pervicacia di Putin che crede di poter conquistare tutta l’Ucraina,  benche’ in tre anni non ne abbia preso che una minima parte.  Probabilmente gli ci vorranno altri anni e altre migliaia di morti,  a meno che qualcuno non gliela serva su un piatto d’argento.  Nel frattempo continua a bombardare civili,  a prendere tempo e ad adottare la tattica del serpente,  cioe’ avvolgere il grande deal-maker americano nelle sue spire…

Altre notizie minori,  trovate sul HS:  Nel 2024 in Finlandia abbiamo avuto 91 morti per droga.  Il trend e’ in leggera crescita.

Sono state affettuate circa 1700 operazioni di riduzione dello stomaco in persone obese in Finlandia nel 2024.

Nella stagione estiva,  la stagione dei temporali in Finlandia,  sono stati registrati fino a 113.000 fulmini caduti a terra.

Circa 207 specie di fiori in Finlandia sono state dichiarate “minacciate”.

Nel panorama lavorativo mondiale,  il 76,2% delle donne svolge lavori come colf e badanti.

Dal 1961 al 1972,  durante tutto il programma Apollo,  solo 18 astronauti misero piede sulla luna.

A Month in my Photos.

August was beautiful in the first half,  practically a continuation of July,  with sunny days and pleasant temperatures.  The second half,  however,  disappointed us,  bringing the first signs of autumn too early:  temperatures dropped below average and rains were thunderous,  often with strong winds.

In Italy,  August was truly scorching hot:  the peak of summer.

Now in Finland,  daytime hours have decreased:  darkness falls before 10:00 PM,  a big difference from Midsummer.  The woodlands are silent:  there’s no more bird song,  only the rustling of the leaves.  Some birds have already left,  like the Curlew and certainly also the Woodcock,  which I no longer see crossing the evening sky with its funny call.

It’s now berry and mushroom picking season.  The woods are literally full of blueberries and red worthleberries,  and chanterelles in particular:  they look like yellow flowers in the undergrowth! Raspberries,  on the other hand,  are finished:  they’re July fruits.  We’ve picked a lot of everything and made lots of jams.

Schools have already started.  Each region has its own calendar:  in Somero,  they started on August 7th.  The kids had been on vacation since May 31st.  The next week of vacation will be the third week of October.

Among the news of the month:  a survey revealed that more than half of the Finnish population is willing to accept treatment from foreign doctors even if they don’t speak Finnish well or are still learning it.

The city of Helsinki has achieved its goal of “zero road deaths.”  From July 2024 to date,  no fatal accidents have occurred on city roads.  This result was facilitated by the introduction of a 30 km/h speed limit in certain areas,  by the strengthening of speed camera controls,  and by the attention paid to both public transport and the flow of traffic on cycle and pedestrian paths.

Among the sports news,  the first Frisbee Golf World Championship,  a sport widely played here in Finland,  was recently held in the cities of Tampere and Nokia.  It involves throwing Frisbees from one station to another over a course on a grassy field.  The medals were shared largely between the Americans and the Finns.

The “1000 Lakes Rally,”  the World Rally Championship event held in Finland,  also took place.  This year’s winner was the home champion:  Kalle Rovanperä.

An unusual piece of news from Swedish Lapland:  in the town of Kiiruna,  which we visited in 1996,  the mines in that rich territory were expanding so much that they were beginning to threaten the stability of the local church.  So the engineers,  after studying for about ten years,  decided to literally move it.  Wooden houses and buildings generally don’t have foundations,  so it was loaded onto special trolleys and moved in one piece.

Among the most painful news is that the wars and massacres of civilians continue.  It’s shocking to see the plight of the people of Gaza,  but also to know that the Israeli hostages who are still alive are still in the hands of terrorists,  after all this time.

Even more shocking is Putin’s stubbornness in believing he can conquer all of Ukraine,  even though he’s only captured a tiny fraction of it in three years.  It will likely take him years more and thousands more deaths,  unless someone serves it to him on a silver platter.   Meanwhile,  he keeps on bombing civilians,  stalling for time and using the snake tactic,  that is wrapping the great American deal-maker in his coils…

Other minor news,  found on HS:  In 2024,  Finland had 91 drug-related deaths.  The trend is slightly increasing.

In 2024,  approximately 1,700 stomach reduction operations were performed on obese people in Finland.

During the summer season,  Finland’s thunderstorm season,  up to 113,000 lightning strikes were recorded.

Approximately 207 flower species in Finland have been declared “threatened.”

In the global workforce,  76.2% of works like housekeepers and caregivers is made by women.

From 1961 to 1972,  during the entire Apollo program,  only 18 astronauts set foot on the moon.
