L-H Pirtti #2.

Dopo avervi descritto gli interni di Lounais-Hämeen Pirtti, ora vi mostro la strada che si fa per arrivarci. Si tratta di un breve persorso dentro l’inizio del bosco che costeggia il lago Suujärvi.

Il sentiero non e’ accessibile ai disabili, ma si puo’ entrare direttamente al ristorante dalla strada principale che da’ sull’ampio parcheggio.

Come detto, il cottage da’ su due laghi, che in quel punto formano insenature ricche di vegetazione acquatica e, in luglio, ninfee.

La storia di Lounais-Hämeen Pirtti inizia alla fine dell’800, quando le spinte autonomiste (allora la Finlandia era un granducato della Russia) si fanno piu’ forti. La popolazione locale prende coscienza della propria terra. I proprietari del parco, annesso alla grande casa padronale Saaren Kartano, iniziano a pensare di costruire in un punto cosi’ bello, un luogo di ritrovo per organizzarvi feste e sagre. Dopo l’indipendenza, gia’ nel 1926 fu eretta una torre panoramica, per godere dall’alto della bellezza del luogo. Anche il pittore Albert Edelfelt trascorse le sue vacanze estive in questo luogo e ne dipinse le bellezze, cosi’ come altri pittori, ad esempio Magnus von Wright.

Nel 1930 vi fu eretto un anfiteatro ligneo per rappresentazioni all’aperto, sfruttando la naturale inclinazione di una collinetta. Dopodiche’ l’allora proprietario di tutto il parco e della casa padronale, Erik von Frenkell, decise di affittare l’intera area al comune di Tammela per la cifra sibolica di 1 marco all’anno. Nel 1945 si decise di realizzare il cottage. Ci vollero circa due anni di lavoro volontario e circa 700 tronchi per edificarlo. Fu inaugurato nel 1948. Nel 1980 l’ultima erede, la signora Vivica Bandler, cedette l’intero territorio alla comunita’ di Tammela, che lo trasformo’ in parco nazionale e zona protetta.

La torre panoramica – un’attrattiva per birdwatchers – e il teatro esistono ancora, a fronte di regolare manutenzione.

Da allora il ristorante offre pietanze deliziose ai propri clienti, pur avendo cambiato gestione piu’ volte nel corso degli anni. Purtroppo e’ aperto solo nel periodo estivo, oppure in occasioni speciali. Puo’ essere anche affittato per festeggiamenti privati, come pranzi di matrimonio. La prima volta che Risto mi ci ha portato era il giorno del mio compleanno nel 1994. La volta piu’ recente, il giorno del mio compleanno del 2025.

After describing the interiors of Lounais-Hämeen Pirtti, I’ll now show you the route to get there. It’s a short hike through the edge of the forest that borders Lake Suujärvi. The trail is not wheelchair accessible, but you can access the restaurant directly from the main road that leads to the large parking lot.

As mentioned, the cottage overlooks two lakes, which at that point form inlets rich in aquatic vegetation and, in July, water lilies.

The history of Lounais-Hämeen Pirtti begins in the late 19th century, when autonomist claims (Finland was then a Grand Duchy of Russia) were growing stronger. The local population was becoming aware of their land. The owners of the park, annexed to the large Saaren Kartano manor house, began to consider building a gathering place for parties and festivals in such a beautiful spot. After independence, a lookout tower was erected in 1926 to enjoy the beauty of the place from above. The painter Albert Edelfelt also spent his summer holidays here and painted its beauty, as did other painters, such as Magnus von Wright.

In 1930, a wooden amphitheater was built for outdoor performances, taking advantage of the natural slope of a hill. Afterwards, the then owner of the entire park and the manor house, Erik von Frenkell, decided to lease the entire area to the municipality of Tammela for the symbolic sum of 1 mark per year. In 1945, the decision was made to build the cottage. It took about two years of voluntary work and about 700 logs to build it. It was inaugurated in 1948. In 1980, the last heiress, Mrs. Vivica Bandler, sold the entire land to the community of Tammela, which transformed it into a national park and protected area.

The observation tower—an attraction for birdwatchers—and the theater still exist, subject to regular maintenance.

Since then, the restaurant has offered its customers delicious dishes, despite having changed management several times over the years. Unfortunately it is only open during the summer or on special occasions. It can be rented for private celebrations too, like wedding dinners. The first time Risto took me there was on my birthday in 1994. The most recent time was on my birthday in 2025.
