Buona domenica a tutti!

Anche oggi ci ascoltiamo un brano dedicato al mare.  Si tratta della traduzione in finlandese di una “Sea shanty”,  cioe’ una canzone ritmata cantata un tempo dai marinai delle navi mercantili per coordinare e accompagnare il loro lavoro.  

L’originale e’ forse inglese o irlandese ed e’ stato cantato certamente a partire dai primi anni del 1800.   Si intitola:  “What shall we do with the drunken sailor?” e parla di un marinaio ubriaco.

Il testo finlandese parla in generale della vita dei marinai che attraversano l’Atlantico.  Si intitola:  “Paljon on miehiä maailmalla”,  e dice:  tante sono le persone sulla terra,  tante le navi nel mare…

Avevo trovato una versione cantata da voci bianche,  ma non e’ piu’ visibile,  percio’ vi propongo questa.  Piuttosto moderna.

Today we will again listen to a song dedicated to the sea.  It is the Finnish translation of a “Sea shanty”,  a rhythmic song once sung by sailors on merchant ships to coordinate and accompany their work.  

The original is perhaps English or Irish and has certainly been sung since the early 1800s.  It is called:  “What shall we do with the drunken sailor?”  and is about a drunken sailor. 

The Finnish text is generally about the life of sailors crossing the Atlantic.  It is called:  “Paljon on miehiä maailmalla”,  and says:  as many are the people on earth,  as many are the ships in the sea… 

I had found a version sung by childrens’ voices,  but it is no longer available.  So I will propose a more modern one.
