Buona Domenica delle Palme, amici del blog!

Il venerdi’ Santo 2024 siamo stati in chiesa a Somero a sentire un concerto di una ensemble di Turku che proponeva lo “Stabat Mater” di Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, compositore italiano vissuto tra il 1710 e il 1736.

Pergolesi e’ un rappresentante di spicco della musica barocca e proprio questa composizione fu ultimata pochi giorni prima della sua morte.

L’ensemble musicale che si e’ esibita e che vedete nelle foto sopra si chiama: Turun Vanha Musiikki. Erano presenti due Violini barocchi, una Viola barocca, un Violoncello barocco, un organo e le cantanti erano una soprano e una mezzosoprano.

Io pero’ vi propongo l’esecuzione che ho trovato in rete, con un interessante contraltista nella parte della mezzosoprano.

CURIOSITA’: Quest’opera si avvale di un testo scritto in latino da Jacopone da Todi (1230-1306).

Last year on Good Friday we went to church in Somero to listen to a concert by an ensemble from Turku who performed the “Stabat Mater” by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, an Italian composer who lived between 1710 and 1736.

Pergolesi is a prominent representative of baroque music and this composition was completed a few days before his death.

The musical ensemble that performed and that you see in the photos above is called: Turun Vanha Musiikki. There were two baroque violins, a baroque viola, a baroque cello, an organ and the singers were a soprano and a mezzo-soprano.

However, I will share with you the performance that I found online, with an interesting countertenor in the mezzo-soprano part.

FUN FACT: This composition is based on a text written in Latin by Italian scholar Jacopone da Todi (1230-1306).
