Molte volte mi sono sentita chiedere se in Finlandia trovo prodotti italiani da cucinare o se mi devo portare dall’Italia cio’ che mi piace.  La risposta e’ che in Finlandia si trovano innumerevoli prodotti italiani,  per due motivi:  il mercato globale ormai funziona cosi’ e poi i finlandesi sono aperti a tutte le tradizioni culinarie,  non solo la propria,  come invece siamo noi italiani.

Di conseguenza vengono importati in Finlandia prodotti alimentari da molte parti del mondo:  dal Giappone,  dalla Grecia,  dai Balcani,  dalla tradizione Baltica,  dalla Germania,  dalla Francia,  dalla Spagna,  infine si trovano i tex-mex a go-go.

Questi nelle foto sono solo alcuni esempi di prodotti italiani,  a cui vanno aggiunti:  salse di pomodoro,  pesto,  nutella,  cantuccini toscani,  formaggi vari,  grissini e crackers,  riso,  alcuni tipi di frutta e verdura…per Natale arrivano Pandoro e Panettone.

Il prezzo e’ il vero punto debole:  i prodotti originali italiani qui costano un terzo in piu’,  mediamente,  di cio’ che costano in Italia.

Naturalmente alcuni prodotti vengono manufatti localmente seguendo le ricette originali ma con materie prime a km zero,  ma la cosa viene sempre segnalata in etichetta.

CURIOSITA’:   Quella che noi chiamiamo “Insalata russa”,  qui si chiama:  “Insalata italiana”.

Infine:  i turisti italiani che venissero qui in camper e rimanessero senza scorte,  non si preoccupino:  qui possono trovare non solo il cibo ma anche le pentole per cucinarlo!  😉

Italian Products.

Many times I have been asked if I can find Italian products tomake food with in Finland or if I have to bring from Italy what I like.  The answer is that in Finland you can find countless Italian products,  for two reasons:  the global market now works like this and then the Finns are open to all culinary traditions,  not just their own,  like we Italians are.  Consequently,  food products are imported to Finland from many parts of the world:  from Japan,  Greece,  the Balkans,  the Baltic countries,  Germany,  France,  Spain,  and finally you can find Tex-Mex galore.

In the photos are just a few examples of Italian products,  to which should be added:  tomato sauces,  pesto,  Nutella,  Tuscan cantuccini,  various cheeses,  breadsticks and crackers,  rice,  a few types of fruits and vegetables…at Christmas we have Pandoro and Panettone.

The price is the real weak point:  original Italian products here cost roughly one third more than they cost in Italy.

Of course some products are manufactured locally following the original recipes but with locally sourced raw materials.  This is always reported in the labels.

FUN FACT:  What we in Italy call “Russian Salad” here is called: “Italian Salad”.

Finally:  Italian tourists who come here by camper and run out of supplies need not worry:  here they can find not only food but also the pots and pans to cook it! 😉

  5. dovrebbero fare di più per proteggere e garantire la qualità dei prodotti Made in Italy…
    quasi tutti i prodotti delle tue foto… io… a volte li acquisto in offerta…
    visto gli aumenti che continuano ad esserci… molti preferiscono acquistare le sottomarche…

  6. That’s a fun fact about those salads and their different names!

    I love all kind of cherry products, but they are hard to find since the flavor isn’t so popular in Finland. Luckily nowadays products from all around the world can be found in stores, also cherry ones!

  10. Great post. My Italian mother and I were talking about this the other day, same thing in America. When she came in the 60s, they had no Italian products here, so she had to learn to cook the American way. NOW, we can find ALL Italian products everywhere, like you mentioned, they are pricier, but there is no reason to travel to Italy, which is a shame. We used to think, “We’ll only find Nutella, etc. in Europe.” Time to visit Nonna to get some. LOL

  32. Interessante questa cosa, ci sta che possano costare di più, c’è il viaggio per portare lì il prodotto, però se uno si trova lì è bello vedere un po’ d’Italia. 😉😉👍👍👍👍👍👍😊😊😊😊😊😋😋😋

  33. My family absolutely loves Italian food, and I’m so thrilled that Italian products are so easy to find here in my corner of the world. I even managed to track down frozen gnocchi the other day, and I was over the moon!
