Luna e Saturno.

Il giorno 4 gennaio scorso, a partire dalle 1940, nel sud Finlandia e’ stato possibile vedere anche ad occhio nudo l’allineamento tra la luna ed il pianeta Saturno, il quale dopo essersi avvicinato al nostro satellite, ne sarebbe scomparso dietro. Il fenomeno era stato annunciato e siccome il cielo era sereno, ho provato a fare qualche scatto.

Li ho fatti usando programmi diversi in luci diverse. Le prime foto sopra sono le piu’ naturali. La luna era al primo quarto. Potete osservare le fasi di avvicinamento fra i due corpi celesti.

In queste ultime foto la luna si era spostata dietro gli alberi.

Questa e’ l’ultima sequenza: l’ho schiarita per cercare Saturno, ma si era gia’ eclissato. 😉

CURIOSITA’: In qualche foto, particolarmente la n.6, si percepisce abbastanza chiaramente il profilo scuro della luna piena; questo fenomeno si chiama “Earthshine”, perche’ e’ dovuto alla Terra che riflette la luce del sole verso la luna. Ovviamente avviene solo durante il primo quarto e l’ultimo. Questo fenomeno si chiama anche “Da Vinci glow”, perche’ fu per primo descritto e studiato da Leonardo nel secolo XVI.

Moon and Saturn.

On January 4th, starting at 7.40 p.m., in southern Finland it was possible to see with the naked eye the alignment between the moon and the planet Saturn, which after approaching our satellite, would disappear behind it. The phenomenon had been announced and since the sky was clear, I tried to take some shots.

I took them using different programs in different lights. The first photos above are the most natural. The moon was in its first quarter. You can follow how Saturn comes closer and closer.

In the last two shots: the moon was going behind the tall trees. In the last one, brightened on purpose, Saturn had already disappeared.

FUN FACT: In some photos, particularly n.6, you can clearly detect the dark profile of the full moon; this phenomenon is called “Earthshine”, as it is due to the Earth reflecting the sunlight towards the moon. Obviously it only happens during the first and last quarters. This phenomenon is also called “Da Vinci glow”, because it was first described and studied by Leonardo in the 16th century.
