Tra Italia e Finlandia

Cari lettori,  oggi voglio proprio raccontarvi che cosa ho fatto la scorsa estate e ho proprio intenzione di deliziarvi:  ho preparato la decorazione natalizia che vedete nelle foto.

Avendo disponibilita’ di legna (la nostra scorta per l’inverno),  ho preso spunto da un piccolo souvenir comprato nel 1994 a Rovaniemi,  al Villaggio di Babbo Natale e ho realizzato questa famiglia di folletti,  che in finnico si chiamano:  Tonttu.

I tonttu sono gli elfi del Babbo,  proprio quelli che vi spiano tutto l’anno e riferiscono se siete stati buoni o meno e se meritate i regali!

Naturalmente nel mio caso,  Risto ha fatto il lavoro pesante:  ha tagliato i tronchi e li ha levigati,  mentre io ho fatto il resto:  li ho dipinti e laccati per proteggerli dalle intemperie.  In questa seconda foto sopra li vedete appena usciti dal laboratorio.

Ed eccoli piazzati in bella vista.  Non sono carini?  La soddisfazione e’ stata farli,  naturalmente,  e soprattutto creare le loro facce:  il babbo con gli occhiali e la pipa,  la mamma con le sue belle labbra rosse e i pupetti con le loro buffe espressioni.  Uno e’ anche strabico,  perche’ nessuno e’ perfetto.

Ed ecco qui sotto le loro faccine sorridenti.

A Tonttu Family.

Dear readers,  today I really want to tell you what I did last summer and I really intend to delight you:  I prepared the Christmas decoration you see in the photos.

Having some wood available (from our winter supply),  I took inspiration from a small souvenir bought in 1994 in Rovaniemi,  at Santa Claus Village,  and I made this family of elves,  which in Finnish are called:  Tonttu.

Tonttu are Santa’s elves,  the ones who spy on you all year round and report whether you have been good or not and whether you deserve presents!

Of course,  in my case Risto did the heavier part:  he cut the logs and sanded them,  while I did the rest:  I painted and lacquered them to protect them from the elements.  In the second photo above you can see them just out of the workshop.

And here they are,  placed in full view.  Aren’t they cute?  I enjoyed making them and above all creating their faces:  the father with his glasses and pipe,  the mother with her beautiful red lips and the little ones with their funny expressions.  One is even cross-eyed,  because nobody is perfect.
