With his Tongue hanging out.
During a solitary walk in the woodlands behind my house, I surprised this young Elk peacefully grazing near the path. Being a wild and very shy animal, he immediately ran away when he heard me, but luckily he stopped to observe me from afar, so I took some photos.
What struck me was the fact that he was constantly sticking his tongue out. At first I thought he was eating or finishing eating, but since the situation persisted I hypothesized a jaw malformation. Who knows…
I am sharing it with you in different lights and different filters.
I also made a short video, a bit unstable since I had no support points.
Elks are shy animals, rarely seen during the day in open spaces. They are harmless to humans, unless of course they are females who feel their young are threatened: but in this case ALL animals become dangerous.
I remind everyone that the best way to encounter wild animals in their natural habitat is to walk in silence and not have any pets with you.

We are in Sweden today and keeping an eye out!

A very unusual encounter…. If your hypothesis of a jaw malformation is right, it seems this isn’t life-threatening condition, as the animal survived so far.

These animals are majestic and somewhat funny at the same time. In Germany, unfortunately, we have them only in zoos and other types of animal parks.

Yes, elks inspire to us humans the same awe as whales, dolphins…and the like. They are something! Thank you so much for your kind comment.

These are cute photos of the young Elk and the tongue hanging out looks cute – I just hope it doesn’t cause him any major problems. I just know that from some cats, in this case it’s usually due to missing teeth or a pure stroke… Have a nice weekend! All the best from Austria, Traude https://rostrose.blogspot.com/2024/10/weltreise-2024-sw-usa-salt-lake-city.html
