Oggi facciamo un giro nelle campagne finlandesi alla scoperta delle case coloniche o fattorie,  piccole e grandi.

Le statistiche dicono che la Finlandia e’ uno dei Paesi piu’ a nord del mondo in cui l’agricoltura viene praticata;  a causa del clima,  infatti,  solo il 7% del territorio nazionale viene coltivato,  la maggior parte e’ ricoperto da foreste.  Le produzioni maggiori riguardano i cereali e il 14,4% dei terreni agricoli e’ dedicato a colture biologiche.

CURIOSITA’:  Come in altri Paesi,  anche in Finlandia molte aziende agricole piccole sono state assorbite dalle piu’ grandi.  Una delle conseguenze piu’ evidenti e’ stato il recupero delle ex abitazioni/cascinali come seconde case di campagna in cui trascorrere i fine-settimana.

In quest’ultima foto ne vedete una:  il fumo che esce dal camino del piccolo edificio a destra indica una sauna a legna.

Farmhouses in Finland.

Today we will take a tour of the Finnish countryside to discover farmhouses or farmsteads, small and large.

Statistically,  Finland is one of the northernmost countries in the world where agriculture is practiced,  despite the climate.  The percentage of cultivated land is about 7%,  because most part of the soil is covered by forests.  The largest productions concern cereals and 14.4% of agricultural land is dedicated to organic crops.

FUN FACT:  As well as in other countries,  in Finland many small farms have been absorbed by  larger ones.  One of the most evident consequences is the recovery of the former farmhouse buildings as second country homes in which to spend weekends.

In my last photo you see one:  the smoke coming out of the chimney in the small building on the right indicates a wood-fired sauna.
